View Full Version : Fall food plot seed giveaway

I have just become a sponsor here with my Habitat business and thought I would offer a couple bags of seed up to the members.
Here is how it will work. Post up on this thread if you are interested in trying out my "Green Fire Mix". I will put all the names that wish to try it in a hat and pull out two names on July 7th. I will then send a bag of "Green Fire Mix" to the two lucky participants, FREE. This way it will give you a couple weeks to get the seed and get it in the ground. I spent a couple years developing this mix and have had great results.
You can check out the mix here-

http://greenfirehabitat.googlepages.com

Look under Green Fire Mix and it will give all the particulars of planting. The only thing I ask is that you plant it this fall, do a good job planting it and send me pictures.

I might need a big hat! Good luck to all.

If you look on the testimonial page you will see how some people did with it last year. There have been a lot of deer killed over it, from the UP to southern Michigan, along with some in Tenessee. It seems to work well everywhere.

I would shoot for planting by the first of September, that way its nice and green by Oct. 1. The earlier you plant it the bigger the Brassicas will get, making for a food plot that will last further into winter and late bow season.

Orion, your blend should work fine in Mich. I plant much winter wheat and for the last dozen or so years have added a small amount of a brassica blend to it. It works every time. Good luck to you and your business Orion. The only suggestion I have is to have your target planting date no earlier than mid August and no later than the first of September. That's only a two week planting window but October first, (bow season) comes up fast and although September 30th is perfect for wheat, (if you are a fARMER) it is a bit late for the brassicas, therfore the compromise late August window.

orion
06-19-2008, 03:55 PM
Thanks Ed. You are exactly right with your suggestion on target dates. I just like to give people a larger window to plant. Some of the plots done later in Sept. last year and still did very well, and the further south you are the more likely it is that will be the case. Like I said earlier, the sooner you plant, the bigger the brassicas will get. This can make for a "stemier" plant if planted too early in August, thus limiting use towards the end of Oct. Some guys wanted the larger brassicas, and plant early to have lots of big forage in late Novermber and December. While most look towards that last week in August for planting to give the best bowhunting plot. These are the reasons I suggest the Sept 1st target date. Knowing full well, they will most likely have it in before that. For guys in the UP and Northern lower the August 10 planting may be perfect for their bowhunting needs. Thank you for your suggestion and kind words.

Not sure if it was already asked but i did not see what the blend consisted of? I am assuming some type of brassica as that is what the plot looks like behind the picture..

By the way put me in for this one too!

With the mortgage market not doing so hot right now I will take anything I can get!

Its a blend of Wheat, and Brassicas. With each providing for excellent forage at different times through the fall and winter. Formulated to give great nutrition and draw continueing into the next spring.

Well its the morning of July 7th and I have drew the names of the two winners. Just to let everyone know how I did it, I wrote down the post numbers of every reply in the thread, randomly drew two numbers then went back to the thread to corelate the numbers with the name.

Chevyjam 2001 and The Treestand Guy were the lucky two. I have PM'ed both of them and will send the seed when I get their addresses.

Thank you all for playing. Good luck next year.

Man, I never win anything! Nothing like the feeling of winning something for free! With that in mind...

I'd like to throw my bag back into the proverbial hunt for some other lucky plotter! There are plenty of other people that are surely more worthy than I am. The next time I'm in the Stanton area I'll be giving John a call to purchase some seed and give it a happy home in one of my newly scorched plots.

No you could'nt have entered more than once there were a couple times where I had posted, and other people had asked questions and such. Those numbers were eliminated. Each person was only in one time.

Since Tree Stand Guy so graciously declined the seed. I will draw another number. ........................post #9 = Michbowhunter819.
Congratulations!! I will be sending you a PM.
Thanks again all.
