this is directed at to the people that insist on bashing those of us who think that crossbows should be able to be used in bow season. would you give up your sights - releases - overdraws - stablizers - and compound bows to keep crossbows out of bow season. i doubt it very much. i also doubt that the ones gripeing the loudest have ever shot , much less hunted with , a bare recurve or long bow. i would also bet that most of you snap up every new little gadget that comes along to give you a better edge. it has been my experince that most of the gadgets are to make up for lack of experince or skill. those of you that think that drawing is what makes a compound so much more dificult try lifting and aiming that 10lb. , 2ft. wide crossbow without being detected. and finally to sbooy42 and 7mm magnum , the belittling coments about being juvenile if you shoot a crossbow reread you posts and i think you see that your attitudes of " i don`t like it so it must be wrong " is much more childlike than which weapon i choose to hunt with. by the way 7mm magnum how much " skill " does it take to use the weapon , that you use for a handle , as opposed to a compound. why do you use it then?

sorry if i took the " surprised " post wrong . it`s just that i`m sick of getting on here to read some advice or some success stories and there is all this negative stuff about crossbows from some very ill informed people. there are plenty of things that i don`t agree with about our sport but to go bashing someone just because of their choice of weapon is ludicrious. my appoligizes to anyone i offended that can truely take an objective look at the crossbow issue. can`t appoligize for the little girls though. gotta get em ready for a 3rd. championship high school team!!

Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups.
#1 You pointed out sbooy AND 7mm as being childish. YOU WERE CORRECT !
2 guys from BOTH sides of the coin acting like a 4 year old. That's what keeps alot of this chit going. Insulting the other side.
Not just those 2 guys, but all of us.
The Pro-Crossbow crowd has done more than their share of bashing here and that's undeniable. So has the side against them.
We're both equaly to blame on this sad subject.
You start attacking a man's charactor and logic flys out the window, the point is lost and now it's just another school yard fight.
I might, I say might, consider looking at this more closely if it weren't for the fact I get insulted at on every other post.
I'm un-enlighted.
I'm not a sportsman.
I'm sellfish.
I'm an a-hole.
I'm un-American
Hell, I'd be against it just in spite after all that. I'm defending myself more than my beliefs on these threads.
Nobody likes being called stupid, no matter how it's implied.

I don't use a release.
I don't use overdraws.
I don't use stablizers.
I DO use one sight pin.
I HAVE shot traditional bows and still do.
I DO NOT use gadgets. I'm a bare bow man for the most part.
" i would also bet that most of you snap up every new little gadget that comes along to give you a better edge "
Which is another bet you would lose, at least at my camp.
I prefer things simple, and alot of my friends do to. You can't honestly lump all compound bow hunters together, and to make that assumption is wrong.
Your post it littered with insults and assumptions. Then you wonder why this kinda post pisses off alot of the anti crossbow guys.
It has nothing to do with our stance on the subject, and everything to do with attacking our charactor as hunters.

Good post Tom. You are right and depending on which side of the fence one is on it seems like the insults are lop-sided, when the fact is there are too many being tossed in both directions.
Play the selfish card and watch the lazy card get played. Play the inept card and watch the greedy card get played.

well i was quiet till this post...
im kind of a fence sitter right now... i try to learn all i can... and all i have seen is a bunch of weird, stupid, and ignorant posts from both sides... but to start out saying compound hunters and all the things Tom had listed he is right... i would be another person you would be wong on.. I killed my 1st deer with a long bow when i was 12.... did you do that?.. probably not.... i have also taken 2 deer with a recurve... yes now i hunt with a compound.. and i like Tom only hunt with 1 pin... and its a right handed bow and im left eye dominant... so think what that is like... i use it more for reference than anything... i shoot a compound because of speed and accuracy....
in other words guys.. stick to facts.. and show people why crossbows are good... and stuff like that... like some posts due...
for now im getting back up on my fence.
haha word of advice dont call out the people on your own side haha
