A boat can have a title but doesn't have to. It probably doesn't so all you'll need is the boat registration and trailer registration. Take it to the SOS with a bill of sale and you'll be all set.

You dont even need a registration for the boat. Just get a bill of sale stating the year, hull ID #, and the MC's if it has them. Then it can be transfered to the new owner painlessly.

Yup, boats are easy!! Does the trailer registration have the trailers weight on it? If so this will save you the hassle of having to get it weighed for plates.

In Michigan, if your boat is 18' or under, registration only. Over 18', title.

Its more an age thing instead of a size thing. My 2004 Tracker Pro Guide V16 "does" have a title.

Boats with inboard engines or inboard/outboard outdrives will have a title.
Small ouboard boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. will not require a title in MI. Outboard boats will have a registration unlell you are buting something old that has been sitting in a farmers barn for 30 years.
If he has the registration, make sure you get it. It will save will save you lots of time at the SOS.
At the city SOS I go to I always have to "train" the worker on no title, registration only, etc. After I explain everything, they then ignore me and consult with other workers and/or supervisor for at least 20 minutes before they come back and explain to me what I already knew and just told them.
Frustrating.
