I am heading up to St. Mary's in the Lime Island area this weekend 9/29 for walleye.

Have found eyes in 3' fow in June, 12'-20' in July in August around rockpiles and small islands. All fishing done with bottom bouncers & crawler harnesses.

All that being said, what kind of advice do you folks that know the area have regarding what depths of water I should be fishing this time of year for walleye? How important is water temperature - or is habitat / structure more of an issue? Should we be trying other presentations - ex jigs w/ minnows, etc?

Have heard they do well in the fall on perch - any advice here?

Just got back, we got a few trollin pike in the weeds, fish minnows on jigs, under the bridge from the mainland to St. Joe. Is. Also the locals were boxing em up by the lighthouse at the entrance to Gawas Bay. anchor around any of the big rocks, minnows will get em.

Thanks for your reply Moonlighting.

I'm going to be Raber Bay area, near Lime Island; not sure of area on St Joe you are talking about.

What kind of water depths were you working? How did you do on pike?

The bridge you speak of - is it further to the north up near Nebish?

Thanks for your help.

The bridge is the only one from mainland Ontario to St. Joe. It is about three miles East of Richards landing (biggest town on the Island). We usally work water from 6 to 15 ft. We target pike, trolling body baits, usally betwee 2.5 & 3.5. We do not fish any Michigan waters on the annual trip. We did very well, 6 boats averaged over twenty pike in each per day. We only keep 24" to 30" we cleaned about 10 in that size range per day.
