Ok guys, I have a favor to ask. I plan to do a run from pt. huron to oscoda area in a 19' four winns horizon. I need some advice on marinas/launches along the way. I have calculated that I can get about 125 miles a tank at 5 gph but I need a few refuel points so my parents will let me go. Any refuel/marinas/launches that you know of are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

P.S: any gps coordants are greatly appreciated:)

Port Huron to Lexington about 20 miles,
Lexington to Port Sanilac about 11 miles,
Port Sanilac to Harbor Beach about 30 miles,
Harbor Beach to Port Austin about 25 miles,
Port Austin to Oscoda about 35 miles.
The only problem I see might be crossing Saginaw Bay from
Port Austin to Oscoda, it's all open water.
Just keep an eye on the weather and it should be no problem.

I have had a change in plans. My dad said that he'd like to do a run from the selfridge dnr launch to mackinaw, so if anyone has any info, please let me know.

thanks again,

Pat

Yeah, here is some advice" Buy a Bigger boat.

Don't take it the wrong way, but The lake can get pretty rough out there. When things are rough, you go slower, expecially in a 19. When going slower in rough seas, you burn more fuel, so your 5 mpg calculation goes right out the window. You need to always plan for worst case senario. How big is your tank? If you did your math right, sounds like you have a 25 gal tank. I would plan for a range for 45 miles per tank, just to be on the safe side. By my Bluechart, you have a 300+ mile run from ST Clair. Get yoruself a program like this, or Charts and study them GOOD. Grindstone, Pt Austin, Sag Bay, areas around the Island are all very tricky areas.

BTW, I woudl stop and Presque Isle. Very nice place

I appreciate the advice and am taking into consideration the water conditions. I dont plan to be more than a mile offshore. I have been on lk michign many times and I dont think huron will be much different. Thanks for the dnr site, It will get used.

thanks,

Pat

Lake MI and Lake Huron are VERY Different 1 mile from shore. You stay within a mile from the Thumb you WILL run aground. Huron has a very rock shoreline, where as MI is mainly sand. You should stay 3 miles MIN from shore in at least this area. Also, if you plan on hugging the shore all the way around, add another 150+ miles on your trip.

BTW, I have seen countless boats run aground in the thumb. Yrs back when I fished there it was almost an every week thing outta Pt Austin. Get some good charts and study them, and NEVER take the lake for Granted.

Just my $.02 but I have seen the Coast Gaurd hit a reef off the black river in one of there rubber duck boats. So be careful in your planning and good luck.

Personally I would trailer it up North and launch it along the way and do some fishing. Put if you really want the boating adventure, go for it. Plan on only doing 4 to 6 hours of travel a day, watch the weather, and leave early in the morning, whenthe water is the calmest.
