View Full Version : La Approves Crossbows!

Today, Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal approved Senate Bill 165 amending the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) regulation on crossbow use. This bill allows the LDWF commission to “establish the following special deer hunting seasons: (1) a bow and arrow only season, and (2) a bow and arrow and crossbow season.” The commission will also have the responsibility for regulating the length of the special seasons and determining the areas for approved hunting. Prior to this bill, only hunters who qualified for a handicap permit or hunters age 60 and older could use crossbows.

Additionally, crossbow legislation is pending in South Carolina under Senate Bill 691. If approved as written, this bill will define archery equipment as “a bow and arrow, a long bow, a recurve bow, a compound bow, or a crossbow."

Riva's Retort: If I were a LA crossbow hunter, I would be incensed by this new law calling for a dual- use season, specifically regular bows and crossbows. As many here will share, regular bows are not crossbows and should be kept the hell out of the crossbow season. If they want to hunt in the CROSSBOW SEASON, let them pick up a frick'n CROSSBOW. :D

Say "no" to regular bows during the crossbow season!;)

To say crossbows are not regular bows as a reason to keep them from being in the woods while you hunt with the method of your choice is nuts.

State after state now are legalizing crossbows for archery season and it makes sense for many reasons. More licenses sold by the states, more bowhunters in the woods that would otherwise be sitting at home and good for our economy. Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, SC and other states have made the right decision and are not looking back while the whining continues from selfish elitist individuals and groups in other states that have self appointed themselves as the "deciders" as to bowhunting equipement methods. Too bad.

another step forward in the battle for the crossbow. One day in the near future we will be posting Michigan allows crossbows during the archery season for all. Only a matter of time at this point.

Welcome to MS! If you read some of the other threads that are currently running you will note that the OP was including a substantial amount of tongue in cheek when he made the post. ;)

Btw, I wholeheartedly agree with your post!

Who am I, Walter Cronkite! How many major announcements doe you expect in a given day?:)

Actually, it appears that we'll be announcing South Carolina here real soon. Aint that enough? :dizzy:

I am however, still gathering some details on a story that could possibly lead to a "major announcement" but I would have to ration how that information is dispensed. The anti-crossbow people are capable of absorbing only so much objective information at a time. For now, it will have to remain LA and SC.

There's that crippling word "anti" again

Isnt there a better place to post this like the outdoor news forum? IMO it has nothing to do with "michigan whitetail deer hunting"

I agree! Who cares what Louisiana is doing??

I'm kinda sick of seeing Northern Michigan (be it education, welfare, wildlife) managed based on the problems of Southern Michigan. Now you want to manage Michigan based on what's happening in Louisiana?? :dizzy:

Riva, your true colors show through...slippery slope theory proven accurate!

Some advice, if you are able, try to argue unrestricted crossbows use on its merits as I have argued similarly for disabled hunters rights.

Based on your previous posts regarding handicapped use, I didn't think you wanted to muddy the waters by advocating full inclusion?? What gives? :dizzy:

The correct terminology is "disabled" versus "handicapped". That's OK, I forgive you this time.:)

I for one care what other states are doing to reach out and add to the hunt. Maybe if Michigan wakes up one day we can become a state that leads the nation and not the state that wonders what is going on.
I will manage Michigan as it is. We have had some of the best things for the outdoorsman in the past, and should be a leader in that area. But every year we fall back more and more. And why is that? Cause we wait to long to act. this state is nothing like we had when I was a child and I do not see it ever being like that, some of those things are gone and we can not get them back at this time.
With our economy falling at this rate, Michigan will be seeing less people outdoors, so we need to act now and promote every human way of enjoying the outdoors we can.

I consider myself as "physically challanged". ;)
