I agree with using the ugly stik. I have two 9' and two 8'3" rods and prefer the 8'3". I broke a 9' this year and brought it into Gander Mountain without a reciept and they handed me a new one. No questions asked. That is worth it right there to stick with a rod that the company will stand behind!!
I personally think the 9' is bit too soft in that last 2 feet of rod and doesn't really give you any advantage in handling a fish. My 2 cents.
