Just heard it on the radio as well. Announcement by Dumars that Flip will not be back.
Also that Michael Curry has been hand picked by Dumars to be the next coach.
Dam, i hope this is not a precurser to Dumars keeping Sheed.
I was thinking that either Sheed would go or Flip would go cuase Flip just couldnt control Sheed. By canning Flip does that mean we're stuck with Sheed??? God i hope not. Hope Curry has the balls to get up in Sheeds face and put him in line!!!

Me too.

... and Mike Dunleavy couldn't control Sheed, and Mo Cheeks couldn't control Sheed...
Notice a pattern? It ain't the coach.

I heard a short clip for Dumars presser on 1270AM. and Joe said that we can expect some major moves. Or something to that effect. Could be an interesting off season.
I wish Flip well and hope he lands another gig, I think he
will. I just wonder if he wouldnt be better off in college or with a team full of younger players.

In Joe D's presser, he said he had "seen enough" after game 3 of the ECF. He said he saw COMPLACENCY and NO SENSE OF URGENCY. He added that the talent is there but for the third straight year, they have come up short.
I ask you......which players displayed the LEAST sense of urgency on the court? The answer.......definitely Prince and Wallace. I'm betting Joe will do whatever he can to move those two players.
Sheed had no respect for Flip at all!! So many times I would see the team in the huddle for a timeout and theres Sheed doing his own thing!!I think he had his own agenda!!I think Joe is fed up with it and we can see some big changes to the piston lineup next year!!Larry Brown is in Charlotte, dont be surprised to see him down south!!The man has got a ton of talent but cant seem to filter it the right way!!

I don't follow pro basketball whatsoever and don't really follow the Pistons either, but what I do know is this franchise has reached the conference finals 6 straight seasons with largely the same core group of players, and had 3 different coaches. It's time for Dumars to stop swapping coaches to coach the same group of players and bring in some new players.

Well, it's because the lost 3 straight times, when they should've won at least one or two of them. This team had a chance to be a dynasty, but, that window is closing now. Flip had to go, that was obvious. My guess is Sheed is going, i also think there is a small chance of losing Rip or Tay, Rip will give you the most trade value of any player. Billups, Stuckey, Dyess, and Maxiell are the only safe players imo.

Not quite true, last year I posted that both would be gone after this season was over...........that was before the season had started....
Get rid of both and get two guys that are hungry and want to win not just play.....

I have a hard time seeing them get rid of Prince, he is by far the hardest guy for other teams to match up against. I see Sheed and Billips going bye bye.
Well according to Joe D. ALL OPTIONS ARE OPEN. I expect a change or two. I think RIP stays unless he can trade for someone who can get 25 point EVERY night. Lose Rip and whos gonna be your main scorer?
Chauncey will most likely stay another year if for no other reason than to tutor Stuckey. Plus, he is overall one of the finest PG's in the game when all things are considered.
But, he could bring big trade value.
Maxiel stays. He found his nitch and does it well. Unless Joe can package him with Sheed or Tay for a top notch player. Guys like Maxey are good to have on a team.
Dice stays cause hes a great teammate. He's fine off the bench and should not be a starter anymore. He does not want to start. Besides, if traded he would more than likely retire.
Tay, should have all the potental in the world and is a highly regarded defender. BUT, he has never lived up to all the hype during playoff time. As a matter of fact he looks just awfull at playoff time. Im not sure just what it is but my thinking was that by the time the playoffs roll around that 6'9", 215 LB body just dosent hold up. Imean the guy is skinny as a rail. I think his production has never been there and Joe will try to trade him knowing hes highly regarded around the league. If he keeps Tay, he better find another SF somewhere who can step in and take some minutes from him to take the pressure off Tay. Someone who can be productive.
Sheed should be a gonner. He's a cancer that needs to be cut out. All the skills...all the talent.. but the demons in his head take control. Some team out there just might
take a chance that they can get a year or two out of him and get them into the playoffs. I wouldnt be suprised to see him playing for the Spurs or Suns next year. Just a hunch. But whatever happens it ok as long as he's not in a Pistons uniform.
Having said all that, I think that EVERYONE is open for dicussion. If Joe needs to trade ANYONE to pull off a deal that he sees as helping this team, then he will pull the trigger.
The name Baron Davis was posted. Carefull what you wish for, you just may get it. He's in some ways a little Sheed. He's a coach killer who is very often injured.
The guys got game but with Stuckey showing so much promise thats a move that i dont see being made. I would rather have Billups tutor Stuckey one more year.
Someone on another thread mentioned Brandt from the Clippers. I think i like that. Guys got Game and Heart. Bring a real force in the post. But, what to give up to get him???

:yeahthat:
My thoughts exactly! We often saw Sheed & Billips "resting" while the younger bench players got court time...Prince was always on the floor. We should get some great talent for both these experienced guys.

Hmmmmm. I saw Paul Pierce punk him bad this year.
I saw Lebron make Tay his personal Bee ich last year.

Ummm... he's never lived up to his hype if all you look at is the Boston series.
He totally outplayed Andre Iguodala in the first round, and played pretty well in the Orlando series also.

I love the Detroit area!!!!! When they win then Dumars is a genius! When they lose its all Flips fault. Unbeleiveable!!!!! Remember its was the ECF not like they were a horrible ball club since flip got there. Maybe Dumars needs to look in the mirror

.....And what? you where happy with his play vs Paul Pierce in the ECF? And you where happy with his Play against Lebron last year? I hear sportscasters mention Lebrons explosion last year as the greatest single effort
by a player of all time during a playoff game.
Ive said before that i like the guy, respect his game. But knowing hes highly regarded in the NBA makes me think we can get a fine player in return.
If he stays, i wonder if he could bulk up by about 20 lbs with out losing a step. Might help him to put on 20lbs of muscle.

Yep, Paul Pierce owns Tay. Simple fact.....no justification can argue that.
AND defense is the EASIEST thing to be consistent in as a basketball player. It is what effort you put into it, not if you are hitting your shots or not. Tay may provide matchup problems for others, but that green machine in Boston is still going to be there yearly.
Problem here is that Tay defends well against most other teams....Boston is here in the East and will be there next year....and the next, so something needs to be done. Do you keep Tay because he plays well 80% of the time or do you replace him with someone more consistent across the board?
BTW, I am a big fan of Tay. VERY smart basketball player. Good with the media and fans. But he disappears at the most inoportune times and that usually costs the Pistons a game if not the series. Matchup problems exist everywhere, but this Paul Pierce thing kills me. That guy licks his chops when he plays the Pistons because he has that mental advantage against us. Just like Varejao....that guy is an all-star when he plays the Pistons. I hate his game......big flopper.
Maybe it stems from the loss of a shot blocker in the paint? Amir where are you? Ben Wallace was a nice safety valve if your man beat you. I don't want him back, but when he had the skills, this team was a defensive monster.
If they keep Tay, Amir better get some time to play and become a force in the paint. Maxy already has a presence, but Amir needs to be right next toi him.

No - but I also understand we're not going to have a top 5 player at every position either.
Lebron is the best small forward in the NBA, and the second best player in the NBA. Pierce is probably at worst the 4th or 5th best small forward in the NBA - and with the rules the way they are now, offense always beats defense.
Heck - going by plus minus:
Lebron #1 SF, #1 entire NBA
Pierce #2 SF, #10 entire NBA
Do you think there is someone out there we're going to get who is better?
Ive said before that i like the guy, respect his game. But knowing hes highly regarded in the NBA makes me think we can get a fine player in return.
...but can we get a BETTER player in return? There is no reason to change just for change sake. If we can get a better player, fine... but who?
