Decided to try Grindstone City at the tip of the thumb from smallies on Saturday. While we were waiting to launch, and waiting for the other guys we would spend the day with to show up, we decided to try a few casts from shore in the channel. We nailed a fish nearly every cast! We were using pumpkin seed colored tube baits, just bouncing them along the bottom.

The area has been nailed over the past week or so because of a tournament last weekend, but the fish were still there and hitting very well.

We finally launched the boat and fished both sides of the pennisula in shallow water - 3-5 foot deep. The water was crystal clear and you could see the boulders and old pine logs that littered the bottom. The fish continued to hit all day long on the same tubes. No huge fish, at least where we were just out of the harbor (due to the high wind), but steady fun 2 lb averages.

I'm willing to bet that you could duplicate that bite all along that coast of Huron, whether by boat, on shore, or even by wading. And getting away from the pressured area, is sure to bring bigger fish.
