I know this subject has come up before, but please refresh my memory. Which mechanical head works best for turkey? I know they should open wide, but which specific brand and model. Thanks for any help.

I used a gator mechanical. It flex straight for 42 yards, and penetrated nicely right above the wing, below the neck. He went down, got up briefly, and expired.

I have had great luck with 3 and 4 blade Rockets, 125 grain. Vortex also makes a good heads for turkey, I like the 3 blade 125 grain for long beards....There are others, but give one of these a try.

mechanical head - I've used Rockets before for deer hunting and was impressed w/ their design, but I didn't know they made a large diameter blade. Is Vortex the one that has a 2" or 2 1/4" cut?

Nailer, check out the buck blaster heads from Rocket, unreal cutting dia. And yes Vortex does make a wide cutting two blade. The blades are .030 dia. and are made of a somewhat soft steel, they bend easy. Stillito, made by Game Tracker is another good one. They are not very expensive, but don't let that fool you, there a tough head. They have the same design as Vortex, but the blades are a little tougher..

I've used Vortex, and they're good. I still prefer the Rocky Mountain Gator because it does not use the o ring. It is a 100 grain head, two blades with a 2 inch cutting distance, with a .030 inch thickness. Give this head a try!
