Ok heres the deal I think that I am a pretty good fisherman but these last few weeks of whipping are making me think other wise. I am using the same stuff in the same spots as the past years and have always done great up till now. So what I am asking is for anyone with success this year whipping to let me know what they are using and in how deep of water. I am not looking for a new spot just want to see if maybe I am too shallow or something maybe the colors that I have had success on in the past are just dead I do not know but I need to start catching some fish or I am going to go nuts.
Thanks for your response.
Tim

It's not just you. I've been whipping for over 15 years and know of several people that have done it longer who have been experiencing bad fishing this year.
We got skunked for the first time in about 3 years last Friday.

Are you going out this weekend?
Depending on what this forecast turns into I might go out tonight.

Red & white, green, and black & chrome plugs have been working good for us. Vampire and Purpledescent Raps have also been good. 16' - 17' fow. Good luck!

I have thought of doing that before but I was always worried about the raps getting tangled. Do you run your leads at different lengths or all the same. Also, how far apart are your leads stacked (vertically)?
Thanks!

1st lead 18" off bottom 5' leader
2nd lead 36"off bottom 15' leader
The trolling shanks the handliners use works well for this method.

radiohead: Stacking is the only way I ever set up. Longer the lead the better the action of the lure. With 15' on the top and drop 4' down to 10' on the bottom, when they're run out a ways the top one will be about a foot above and a foot behind the bottom one. Fishing two different depths sometimes makes a big difference. Plus you get maximum action from the lures without any trailing off the tail of leading lures. Pencil Plugs work great this way also. If you give it a try and get tangled, tie the knot tight to the nose of the lure and turn the knot left on one lure and right on the other to about almost a 45 degree angle. As you already probably know this will cause the lures to swing out to the left and right away from each other.
But, as everyone knows, fishing is so much better in the day time drifting than anchored at night.:evilsmile ................Bob B.

Actually ggoblue, it's a combination of a few things, the internet, people sharing their good fortune (or luck) and a lot of people waiting to hear where to get a few fish then pounce in on it like a swarm of Locus. I understand that is what this site is all about, helping each other. Them people want everyone to do all the leg work so all they have to do is go out and be right on the fish. I've helped quit a few people over the years, most are thankful but you get the few that will turn right around and screw ya. I better shut up before I ruffle too many feathers...............Bob B.

my brother lives right by the ramp and was givin me the update...he says they are shoulder to shoulder shore fishin at nite too...anyway no offense...the one bad thing about the internet is you cannot read the mood of the person typing a message...im usually typing with a grin on my face...i never want to ruffle anyone...and of course you are right about the host of boats that can show up on your spot...me, i fish the same holes same time every year and am too old to change...i might read something but once i launch the boat its hard not to revert to the old spots...now that i have a color gps with contours on it things might open up...the old days of charts flashlights and reckoning are over :):):)

Buttttt, at night you have to worry about runing into boats without any lights on, objects floating in the water you can't see, tying your lures on in the dark with some form of artifical light, drunks leaving the bars on the water running full speed up or down the river, getting hooks stuck in your hands from people anchoring to close and hanging up in your anchor line and a few other hazards:D

I am going to give your stacked setup a try for the first time tonight Bob. I'll let you know how I do.

Well not much to report. Picked up 1 whipping, on a bleeding copper flash Rapala, lost one about half way to the boat and had a few other hits.
Saw Ice Fishing Nut out there....he was being a good Samaritan and towing in a boat that had broke down.
Tried the stacked setup...not bad! Although I did have one heck of a tangle on my hands after I caught the fish.

Way to go on the limit Big Daddy Beneilli, good to hear.
radiohead, one is better than none. As for the tangled lines, not to often but that happens once in a while, most of the time if ya remove one of the lures and lower the mess to the bottom and reel it back up the current will untangle it for ya.
