I need to store my rods in my 14' open aluminum boat for trailering and moving on the water. Presently I just let the rods bang around and I don't really like that.

I want a clip-in type of setup, maybe using bungee cords or something like that. I would like to build it myself and do it as inexpensively as possible.

I don't have a flat floor so there is no storage below. I have three bench seats and I was thinking something along the hull, along the gunwhale and under the oarlocks. I am having a hard time working out the hook/holder/clip thingy to hold the rods, even during rough seas.

Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Kroppe, I use a pair of these for my boat. They are doing an OK job of holding 9 poles & reels. (8'+ rods for trolling) The clips are not quite strong enough to support that much weight in rough seas, so I usually strap some quick-ties to hold them in. With lighter rigs, they'd do a better job. These are sufficient for what I need them to do, but I'd buy something better if it was out there.

Don't know if its what your looking to do, but you could take like 2 inch wide nylon web strap stuff and anchor it to either side of each benchwith a screw and finish washer, the where the two straps overlap in the center, use some velcro or those adjustable clips like on a backpack or whatever to cinch it down on the rods. They make something like this commecially for bass boats.

Ahh, Found it. Go to www.cabelas.com and search for "rod saver". Kinda what I was thinking of.

i dont know if this would help but ill give it a try. I was fishing in Cancun Mexico in a little 16 foot skiff type boat. The owner had long pvc on the side of the boat. They were fly rods tough, but i think this would work for spinning rods as well. I would think that this would work for storing rods while traveling down the road or to the other side of the lake. Not sure if it will work, but its an idea!

I have two idea's. On my kick-boat I keep my fly rods in a dual rod/reel case. It holds and protects both rods and you can leave them strung up but broke down in half. This only works with two or four piece rods. Doing this I can fish one rod and have one securely stashed out of the way.
A friend cut a long piece of P.V.C. tubing length-wise and screwed one of the halves, concave side down, to the inside of the hull of his canoe. A few bungee's or velcro strips keeps the rods secure and well protected. With this method you can keep the rods stashed at full length.

I have 14 inch pieces of pvc pipe standing up all the way across the front side of the back bench. I ride with six to 8 rods across lake erie with them just whippin in the wind. They also double as rod holders when trolling. Cheap but I dont know if that is what you're looking for.
