I just read another thread about carp-fishing and had to start a new thread . Does anyone else like catching these under-appreciated monsters as much as I do ? My personal best (sorry no picture) was a 39" Hog I pulled from Saginaw River while perch-fishing. That beast was caught on a minnow rig, but when targeting carp, we usually use Shredded Wheat mixed with a little vanilla extract and some water to make a doughball, which is wrapped around a tiny (#8-#12) treble. How does everyone else fish for big carp?

Mike... There are alot of people that fish for them just alot of people will not admit it. Michigancarp.com has alot of info on the monsters. The link is also in my sig.
I fish for them around the holland area and do very well. The biggest one I have got has been 27# on 10# test line.
I use a mix of corn on a hair rig or range cubes with grape jello/corn syrup.
feel free to pm me if you want more info

MAn forget all the fancy bait, Buy a package of frozen bagles and break off half dollar sizes pieces. They will float. Spot and stalk the fish and last out in fron of them about 10 feet and let them come to the bait. Hang on:fish2:!

Good old Corn or just dough balls. Cast and crack open a beverage of your choice and get a tan. Back when I was a kid, a neighbor who's dock I fished from often had a great recipe that was easy to cook up....looked like strawberry dough afterwords. Worked great for carp. But, in perfect kid fashion, I lost track of that recipe.
Carp fishing is just good simple fun.

Man, am I the only one who still uses kernal corn threaded on a hook? I also like to chum the area with a handful of corn first. Carp are a blast to catch!

When me and some buddies were kids we used pitchforks all the time, prob wasnt the smartest thing to do, but we were young and it was fun at the time.

I fished them all the time when I lived in Ann Arbor. I would get on top of dams along the Huron River. I prefered frozen corn as bait with any type of pole set up I could think of. I once put a small spinning reel on my fly pole and that was fun. The things that stayed the same would be corn for bait. one splitshot and the smallest hook I could get away with that was thick enough to not bend. I would find an area on top of the dam where they where schooled up, chum and then cast over the railing just past the school then reel up slowly not to spook em. Then sight them in and walk down the dam with a fish on to land at the bottom. Nasty unappreciated golden salmon fun!
