Oh, I suppose I'll be there..... around 4:00!! LOL!!
When there on Monday (Mem. Day) I had to park with my trailer pretty much IN THE WATER right next to the "ramp hole." But that was mostly due to those "inexperienced" at putting 15 trailers into a lot only made to support 10. We can do way better than that!!

we managed 11 in there last year, plus a few non-trailering vehicles and locals... its doable.

The ramp can be tricky to find.
Take 131N to Sand Lake (exit 110). Head west and take Whitefish Rd which is just past the Southbound off-ramp (follow sign to park & ride). Whitefish road will come to a stop sign... hang a right (East). After a mile or so that road will T into dagget rd. And you go left (north). This is the tricky part.
When you are heading north on dagget, you'll go by some houses / open land and then right as you come into the woods, there will be a hidden road on the left called Lake Ave. Take that until it T's into the lake and hang a left by the big dead oak tree. Ramp is just down the road 100yds.

if anyone has a cheapie heavy-plastic weigh-in bag (the kind they usually give away for free at tournies) that they wouldn't mind donating to the cause please bring one tonight. i have a flat scale and basket, but need a bag to wrap the fish in for weighin.... i have a mesh one that should work fine, but i think the plastic ones work better and i haven't been able to find one.
See you all there... weather is looking great!

right now, it will only apply to the classic (if we have one) - points will determine launch order. Boaters will get launch numbers based on their points.... and bragging rights i guess :)
waterfoul
06-03-2008, 09:09 PM
So does that mean that next week the fellas who finished on top this week go first, me/Dave second... Carl/Paul third, you and kush fourth and so on? Boy, we could really screw that up if we all decide to swap partners! LOL!!!
thedude
06-03-2008, 09:36 PM
1st off - no.
shotgun start unless it becomes a problem.
2nd - take-off order will be based on the boaters points not the non-boater or a combination thereof. :)
waterfoul
06-03-2008, 11:14 PM
Ah... you mean for the Classic (should it really happen... YES being my vote) take off order will be determined by points. I get it. The only place I see shotgun starts being a possible issue might be BPI... especially for the guys in the smaller row boat style rigs. We kinda get funneled by the island to the north and the shallow flat to the south. Maybe a two flight take off?? But we can figure that out when we get there.

Why don't you guys just get a cheap set of poker chips, write numbers on them and draw...the last team calls the numbers. It's not hard and takes little time. It's a lot safer this way...shot-gun starts are a set-up for disaster.

i disagree - a draw format is more dangerous in our case. we have a 50/50 mix of big vs little boats. I've fished tournaments in a 14' jon and the worst thing ever is drawing between two bass boats - first one throws out a huge wake on the hole shot you have to deal with and then the one behind you has to pass. Shot gun start allows the bigger boats to clear out and the smaller ones to decide if they want to battle the wake or hang back a sec and then get on their way.
we're talking about like 8-10 boats here too, not 40.

To each his own...just trying to help.
Most of the time the person sending the teams off has enough common sense to space out the boats as well as the competitors commom sense not to swamp the guys in small boats. Guess it depends on the group you fish with...
I don't fish many tournaments so what do I know???

i didn't mean anything personal by it - if we were much bigger i would definitely be doing a draw as there just wouldn't be any way around it... the way it is now, i give everyone time to get their vector, space out, and see what the boats near them are doing... once everyone has settled into their spot then we go. most of the lakes we fish, the 1st boat could be at the opposite end of the lake by the time the 5th boat takes off. like i said, its worked for us so far, no one has complained to me about it so i will leave it be.

Talking about the parking, if things progress to the point where most of the lakes have 1-2 nites a week that the lot's are full of tournament fishermen, they will (the state) make us plan in advance and buy permit's, cause the GENERAL public could hardly get a boat launched sideway's when we were there, and even if he did manage to launch there was no place for parking! I seen it out west, this is when the real CLUB's are put together, paying members, club insurance and schedule's with PAID tournament permits!

i got some info on those permits... they are pretty outrageous $$ especially for a small club like ours. Anyway, we are "the public" - we could all go and fish against each other for braggin rights and not money and then its not a tournament right?.... Anyway... its not our fault the DNR put in a tiny POS ramp on one of the biggest inland lakes within 30min of gr....
i guess my beef with that regulation is... if i get to the ramp and the lot is full, i go somewhere else.... what does it matter if its a club outing or memorial day weekend or whatever... public ramp is a public ramp. the club makes no money at all on the event so there is nothing to give... just 10 boats out fishin.

Just sayin that's where its all heading!
Check other states say out west, they all have to get permit's
Our club in SoCal we sometimes did paper tournaments,
Under the same assumption that were just fishing, no tournament here!
And ya we got away with it, but once it happens, it will change the face of things for our small, NON paying type gathering's we like to call a club!

The ramp at Big Whitefish is NOT a state ramp. It was put in and is "managed" by the lake association... so if anyone wanted to keep us out it would be them... the DNR nor the county has anything to do with that ramp other than law enforcement purposes.
The only DNR ramps we will be using are on Big Pine Island (room for 13 rigs I believe and park IN one of those spots or get an $80 ticket... I did!!), Tamarack (plenty of room), and Little Whitefish (room for at least 15 rigs). Bass Lake is also locally managed.

Mike it's actually a township ramp run by the association. It'll never become a private ramp because Pierson township says so. The association tries, but it keeps getting shut down.
