So this is how my day went down.. I have not been feeling the best but I figured I would get out since I took the day off.
I got down to the spot i baited yesterday at 8:05 and got the new pod set up and got the first line in the water a good ways off shore and worked on getting the second rod set up. No more then did i turn around and a monster Carp breached the water and scared the crap out of me about 4' from shore.
I got the second rod out and ran it short prolly 15-20' from shore in about 4 feet of water. I had range cubes on both rods and I dipped them in corn juice and put 2 pieces of corn on the shank of eatch hook for a little extra scent. I set it in the rod holder and got my chair set up and was ready to fish. 2 hours and a couple range cubes later its not 10 am. The shallow rod TAKES OFF.... and by take off I mean like the rocket to the moon. he must have come from the left and bolted because he was under my other line and not in any mood to stop. I did a circus act to get the rods not in a knot and the fight was on. All of a sudden i hear tick tick tick tick... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the second rod is screaming... I am sitting here by myself with 2 nice fish on and what to do. I continue to fight the first fish as i watch 100 yards of line just peel out then 125 and then I could see backing.... I knew I was in a world of hurt if I didnt do something fast. Well I had 2 options try to fight both or chase down the first fish and try to horse him.. Well the leader snapped and the first fish was off (he got into some cement slabs) and I RUN back to my other rod and give him a good wake up call when i lock in the drag. after about a 10 min fight with a dead log 150 yards away fish number 2 is on the bank and all in all I lost a leader.
I re bait and re rig and set up the same way with one long and deep and one shallow on a short leader 6" same bait set up.
No more then it hit the bottom and i put it in the pod did the short rod go off with the lil' guy
Quick fight and its over he is on the bank
I had 3 more solid runs and nothng to show for it. I said i was going to pack up at noon and go eat lunch and pick up some day old bread/rolls and I did.
I hope to get out tonight with Jenn and get some more fish.
