Saturday we fished in Lake St Clair after a rainstorm passed with another one approaching. When we picked up our fishing Rods we were getting electric shocks from the rods, so were our buddies in a boat nearby. We all turned and ran in to shore to get out of the potential oncoming lightning. Two hours later once that storm cleared, we went out fishing again. As we were fishing we saw another electric arc from Mikes pole arc to his hand, we took off for shore immediately again. As we were driving in there was some electric shocks running from the throttle to my hand intermittenly. I needed to wear my Buddy's neoprene glove to drive in (the electronics and boat Power were shut off at the time). My buddies were getting zapped when holding the fishing rods about the same time in another boat 1/4 mile away. After zapping my buddies and as they proceeded to run in to shore the rods standing up in the rodholder were making a hissing and sizzling sound. They laid them down quick. Never had that happen before, and I hope it doesn't happen again. We cleared off the lake quick. Has this happened to anyone else? :yikes:

Yup, sure has! Antenna was hissing and shocks from the rods. I think that lighting was just try to figure out which path it was going to take. :yikes: Unfortunately, the fishing is usually great in those conditions!

Out on Erie several years ago we were casting Erie Dearies, thunderstorms in the area created so much static, the line floated in the air not allowing the Erie Dearies to sink, we had to dip the rod tip in the water getting as much line submerged as possible to get it to drop, and yeah the fishing was great!
