Well after a real quiet first day, the second day started of a little better. The winds calmed down quite a bit, making the birds a little more vocal. I called in a couple birds first thing in the morning, but could not get to full draw. So after 9 o'clock I went to the 1187 to try a tag my bird. I had a field with about 15 birds working it to set up on. I new a great spot to set up, so I got too it. I started lightly with mainly soft purrs and cuts, which they really loved, so I turned it up a little. The next thing I new there were 2 Toms within 35 yards. I'm not sure what it was but they didn't like something, so I backed of a little( I should of had a decoy out!!). I didn't spent to much time working those two, so I grabbed my gear, to make a circle on the other group. A half mile later, and well in front of the group I found a Deadly set up. I changed channels and went to a real raspy mouth call( Mad split V-3),they loved it. In about 5 minutes I had several Jakes in front of me. The bigger birds were hanging back, and I really wanted to fill my tag,( I have at least 8 other commitments I promised to call for, in area k,ub,ua, and u, including my wife and brother). So the next bird to cross the stump fence row was catching lead. Not a bad bird, 17.9 pounds and a 7 inch beard,I really worked hard for that bird, and I'm pretty proud of it. I've heard of some pretty sad stories the first couple of days, guys taking shots at birds, only to half them roll over and fly away, Please,Know Your Guns Limits, just because a friend of a friend or something has taking birds at 45 yards dosen't mean you can. Be safe, hunt smart, and have fun.

Hey Mechanical Head,

Congrats. That's not a bad bird you shot!!
I would of shot it also. Good luck with
your other hunting commitments. Hope you
can call some into range for your family
and friends. I was never able to master a
mouth call, it always makes me gag. Going
to go out this weekend and give it another
try. Opening day was no good for me because
of the weather. Hopefully this weekend will
be nicer

Hey guys, thanks a-lot. I would have loved to been able to more selective, but the way this weather going I'm glad I pulled the trigger. It is nice having one tag filled, now it's time friends and family. I will defintly have my hands full, three of the guys never killed a bird, and one's in a wheel chair. The one nice thing about this is most have there own private land. One more thing, when out hunting always carry a change of cloths, for knocking on doors. The day I killed my bird, I changed into some jeans, stoped by one farm in sec. U and presto 99.5 acres, I never meet the guy before. But he is now on the Christmas card list. When I get this roll in my camera filled, I will send in some nice pictures. Good luck this weekend, Friday and Saturday I'll be in sec. U, and Sunday and Monday in K. I'll post report next week...

Has the guy in the wheel chair hunted much? I am interested in his experiences. I would like to know what sort of activities in the outdoors are accessable to him. Does he do any waterfowl hunting?
