I stumbled upon the morel gold mine up here.

That goldmine being my realization that morels don't grow anywhere near $%##@% Lake Superior. I quit.:sad:

I'd keep at it a week or two up there yet if I were you...
Not finding any even in the mixed hardwoods or popple stands? When I was growing up I had a neighbor kid who's famly went up there every year and picked em. Of course they didn't broadcast where that was...:confused:
For what it's worth, me and a few others I know who pick in areas not too far from the bridge (NLP) didn't do as good as usual. A lot like last year for me. Warmed up then the cold set in, seemed to slow things.

i'm with ya 2tundras. I love them but I can't find them. I did find one beefstake on thursday in raco. my dad went on quad ride today on dump rd and didn't see any. let me know if u find any.

The big ones just started popping up here not that long ago. Peak season may be just around the corner up there. Don't give up yet!!:)

From what I've read, your areas prime time is usually the last 2 weeks
of May into early June. I'd be looking around poplars and ash trees if you can find them.

I found white morels on Isle Royale in 1995. That was the second week of June. They pick them in the Yukon in July.

Don't give up. We just need warmer, wetter weather. It's drying up here, now, too, after the cold set in a few days ago. Rain dance going on right now everywhere up here.

Look for rich, dark, peaty soil with a minimum of rocks near ash and popple. Give it time...

I seen a report where 400 black morels were found near Paradise in the UP last weekend, so this weekend should be prime time for da Yoopers!
