I went looking for mushrooms this evening and came across a LOT of these. I cut this one off for a photo. This was one of the smaller ones. I saw one in a log pile that was absolutely enourmous.
Is this a pheasant back?
I've read that they are edible but not the best mushroom in the woods.

I also found other mushrooms that were in tight clusters. It had a smooth, orangish cap, smooth underside, and a thin white stalk. Can anyone tell me where I can find pictures on the internet for mushroom identification?

Thanks
Due

They actually aren't that bad in eggs, just make sure they are REALLY young. They get tough later. I picked some al little bigger today as well. However, I'm just planning on using those in a stew. I figured if I simmer it for about 3 hours it should soften those ones up:lol::lol:. About the other mushroom though. I honestly don't know.

I thought it was a phez back and I DID read that other thread. I am just VERY nervous about consuming wild mushrooms. I'm new at shrooming and I'd rather not get myself or anyone else sick;).

That is a pheasant back...

But Morels and Oysters are in full swing, they arent really worth messing with.. They are edible but far from choice imo.

I saw abunch of those Pheasant Tails around, might have to grab some little ones and give them a try.

I am sort of new to this, So of course my first trip out, I thought I stumbled onto the mother load, and it turns out I got a good load of VERPA(False Morel) mushrooms that look similar to morels, then across the street I found abunch of real morels but no verpas(knowing there are different morels, I thought I had two different breeds of morel)
Thank goodness for the intrernet, cause it wasn't 'til after I was cleaning them up that I started to question what they were, cause the tops were connected to the stem and they were "kinda" hollow but weren't.

So newbies beware of VERPA Musrooms, if you don't know what to look for, and they are the only mushroom around, you might think you found some morels. Those things look very similar, and now that I know what to look for, I won't be making that mistake again.
I should be outside,
Pete

I actually kept a couple pheasant backs, but with the morels and there being ALOT of oysters I'm saving the room in my freezer for the oysters!!:corkysm55:corkysm55 I'm heading out today with the wife. She'll carry the bag I've got the ladder.:D What dumb luck too. I looked back out in my mother-in-laws front yard after the rain we had. Low and behold there must have been some really dinky yellow morels there I didn't see. There were 10 nice ones just chilling in the yard. I was in heaven.I'm drying them, CORRECTLY this time and using them on steaks later on. I found the trick to findin morels now too. Just mess around and don't really look for them. That's when you find them:lol::lol:
