I was wondering if anyone else here collects these delectable morsels. I favor them over most[can't beat a chanterelle;)] other wild edible shrooms, but have yet to find any this year. I have found enough morels to make me sick so I'm all done with them.

Has anyone else found any oysters this spring?

Yes, I found some this past weekend up near Manistee by accident while looking for firewood. I wasn't even looking and there was a couple oysters right on a tree. It was my first time eating them yesterday and must I say. They are quite tasty!!:corkysm55 I'll be looking for those as well. Do you know how long they stay in the spring?:) Here's a pic of a couple. There wasn't many on that tree, but it was something.

They sprout as long as conditions are favorable. The only problem is getting to them before the beetles eat them up. I have found them as late as September while small game hunting, but the spring oysters are best,IMO.

Cool thanks. Looks like I'll be looking for them quite a bit!! My wife liked it as well. I still think it's hilarious that she absolutely hated shrooms until she ate the wild ones. She has no problem eating morels, hens, or oysters now. I wonder how many more she'll like before I find one she hates:lol::lol:

I'll be sure to look up. Also, I plan on looking for black trumpets, and chanterelles with my wife as well this year. She's going to eat them all isn't she?:yikes::lol::lol: I hear they are good, but I've never had them. We did oddly find a very good black trumpet spot by accident up north though. For some reason they never rotted. Just dried and left a nice clue to where they grow. Right where they still were. Near a bunch of mossy beech trees.:D
