on my turkey hunt up north i went shroom huntin with fiances gpa only found one morel but about 40 beefsteak never ate em and kinda scared to whats the story to these ugly little things?? im new to mushroom hunting. ive heard claims of being toxic but hear that people eat em all the time???

I won't eat one. I just step on them when we find them. They say some can eat them in small amounts and just one bite makes others sick. Your choice though.

The best advice is to just not eat them. I never have and never will. Yes some people can eat beefsteaks for years and never have a problem, then one day die. The toxins are built up over time in your body. It is also possible to get very sick from just breathing the fumes given off during cooking. I read that beefsteaks have the same chemical compounds that are found in rocket fuel. I dont think that I want that in me!

I ate em for about 4 years running when I couldn't find the morels until I heard that a couple years ago. 'shroom roulette.

Normally when I find fresh beefsteaks, nice fresh & juicy blacks are close by. In fact I would state that as a absolute.

I saw quite a few last weekend when I went out shroomin but didnt find any blacks, I thought for sure I would. I dont eat the beefers, not worth the risk.
