Well, we didn't find the motherload or anything, but my wife and I did enjoy our time up there. I found out she likes rustic camping more than I thought as well. Before we even started looking for morels on Saturday I was getting firewood and I just happened to see a couple oyster mushrooms growing off of a tree that had just fallen.(They are a cold weather mushroom, but it's been kind of cold later. Kind of a cool find. Was my first one and I quadruple checked to make sure I was right. Very tasty too.) There weren't many on it, but they looked fresh so I picked them. Later on in the day we looked, and looked and.........found really good deer hunting spots:lol: (REALLY GOOD TOO!:D) Finally we found an area that looked like it was burned last year or the year before. Within five minutes my wife said. What are these little things sticking out of the ground. Oddly enough they were old dried black trumpets from last year. Cool thing is I know where the spot is and they were EVERYWHERE!! We're going camping up there in the summer to look for those now:). Then while looking at the first old crumbly pathetic black trumpet. (Fate) 3 feet from me while kneeling down was a black morel. My wife thought I was crying wolf again. I cut it looked around more. Then I found another........then......one more. That was it for the day, but we went to the same spot in the morning and found two more. Yep, a whopping 5 black morels:yikes::lol:. My wife found her first one, and we did happen upon a VERY good black trumpet area in the meantime.(None are edible as dried scabby things though.) Turns out the trees that I thought were poplars were beech trees. I guess black trumpets like those and I found out it's true. When we got back we cooked up the shrooms and enjoyed them. Pretty good.:corkysm55 Here's a couple mushroom pics.:)

Sounds like a great time FH!
Should see a major fruiting of Oysters around here sometime this week
along with morels hopefully!
I love the sweet smell of oysters!

Did you get any pics of the trumpets?
I've never seen any that have ever made it thru the winter
and they could be something else, but you never can tell.
They are in general no thicker than a piece of paper when fresh
and are one of my favorites.

I didn't get any pics of the trumpets, but I did find some pics of some old dried up ones on the michigan morels sight. They looked identical. I'll copy and paste a pic of someone elses old dry findings because they were literally identical.:)They were paper thin, trumpet shaped, about 1 to 2 inches in diameter as well. I don't know why they dried and stayed, but it was a heck of a clue!!:D Also does this mean there will be some oysters blooming down here as well this week? If so I think I'm going to look for oysters, and morels down the street after my doctors appointment today.:p:)
