I wouldn't worry that much of getting a "close" pic because as you can see, a lot of yours are out of focus. Pull your camera back and the primary objective is to get a focused picture.

You can then use some software to crop the picture and it will upload and look 100 times better. You are posting a lot of pics lately but it's a strain to look at them.

I took the following from about 18 inches away and just cropped out the unwanted background.

Just my 2 cents.

I would have to agree with cruncher...

I followed wicked carpenters advice and it helped my photography a bunch.

I use the macro setting (close up) and use two lights (swing arm lamps) that are already on my bench. Prop up a background about 8 inches behind the object. Adjust the lamps to reduce shadows on the background. Hold the camera 12 to 18 inches away and use no flash. Flash tends to wash out the detail.

Upload the photos to the computer and edit them in paint. Resize and crop out the background.... works really good IMHO.

besides that....the file sizes will be smaller and you can store more pictures here then if you don't resize them. We won't have to scroll to see the entire photo too.

and BTW... nice looking stone. Should put a fish or two on the stringer.

They always look good on that little 1", 2" or 3" LCD screen on the back of the camera don't they? Since I have botched quite a few pics in the past, I do a preview sometimes after taking pics and use the zoom feature and look around the whole picture for any inconsistencies.

Especially when you take group shots too. The little picture may look good but then when you download it and see it on a 19" monitor, someone may have an eye closed or glancing off somewhere. I hate when that happens.

Thanks.

Steelhead- now that's what I'm talkng about. You can even crop closer around the fly and bring out the detail more, and smaller pixels to boot when all done.

BullMarket- it's leech yarn. Gives that buggy look without doing anything special.
