Fellow Fishers, We will be making a trip to Brevoort Lake the week of May 23 and never fished this lake in the spring. What is the bait of choice for walleyes in the U.P.at this time? I hear that crawlers are used, what about leeches at this time? Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks

Take crawlers, leeches, minnows and let the Eyes tell you what they want.

along with the previous post. Walleye are very finiky and change what they liek alot but my favorate bait by far is just a night crawler harness with a worm used while drifting.

I went 1 for 4 a couple days ago with jigs and leeches. Leeches are always a good bet for the early season but I have caught walleye in May trolling crawer harnesses or using blue shiners under a slip bobber. For the leeches, you can use a lindy rig or a slip bobber rig as well. Of the beach, I sometimes use a sliding pyramid sinker rig with a leech. Good luck.
