Are there walleye in this lake? If so, never knew it. My buddy lives up in Empire, and I was going to visit him. And... if there are walleye in Big platte, well, I may just have to give it a try.

You have a buddy who LIVES in Empire? Wow... and I thought I was the only one who knew anyone in Empire! LOL!!

Well, if I were heading to Empire I'd be hitting Lake Leelanau for eyes.

Did pretty good on big platte last fall for the eyes. Trolling was the way to go last year with bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses.haven't heard any reports this year though.

I've never fished it but I have heard and read talk that the walleye fishery there is in decline. I agree with Waterfoul about L. Leelanau. Big Platte is a good looking lake though and since I can't say anything from experience, it may be worth a shot.

There are some nice eyes in there. I friend of mine has a place just outside of empire, and his dad had a place on Platte Lake. They have caught some really huge walleye up there through the ice, but none in the summer. (They spend most of their summertime fishing salmon though)

They have told me that the eyes will move in and out of there too. I caught one a few years agon in Loon Lake while steelhead fishing. Nice sized fish too.

It's a great smallie lake, and there are some huge pike in there too.

I'd at least give it a try.

I will agree with you guys that lake leelanau is a much better walleye fishery than big platte but i only live ten minutes away from platte and rarely get a chance to fish lake leelanau because it is 45 min away.

Havent fished Big Platte in a long time, I may have to try. I hooked a huge pike back in the day on Loon, otherwise, used to kill the channel cats out there. My buddy in empire said the perch were in loon big time last winter. Gonna bring up my coleman scanoe to hit Loon, and the platte river/lake.

Hopefuly we'll get something.
