While out on the pond today, my tachometer and charging system quit working. It's a 225 HP Evinrude outboard. I'm thinking regulator but I'm looking for a 2nd opinion before I spend the cash. Any thoughts?

Did the charging system really Quit or did the gauge just stop working. It may just be a fuse or broken wire, boat wiring sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Good luck in any case ;)

The tach quit but the volt meter was still showing the battery voltage so it was still working. Also, if I do tackle the regulator, does anyone know if I need to pull the flywheel. It will probably be obvious once I get in there but so far I haven't even plulled the engine cover.

Last year my 90 hp evinrude same thing happened and it was the regulator which is under the flywheel has to be pulled to changed on my 90 not sure about your big motor but probably the same. hope this helps

Thanks TROUT TRACKER. I talked to a mechanic friend and he said regulator also. I looked at it and it appears I can sneak it out of there without pulling the flywheel. It is buried under the brain box so I have some fun with all the wiring but it looks like I should be able to handle the job.
