Hi everyone,
We are doing a manual sucker removal on Big Twin Lake in Kalkaska County this week. We set eight trap nets today, and we will be lifting them each morning this week, at least through Thursday, and possibly through Friday. The reason we're removing the suckers is that they compete with other, more desirable species like yellow perch. Big Twin Lake is known for having stunted perch, and hopefully we can change that.
The suckers are available for the public to take home. We would prefer to give all of the suckers away to the public. So anyone who would like to take home some white suckers should come to the DNR boat launch on Big Twin Lake between 10 am and 1pm or so each day this week. There's no guarantee on how many we'll have available, but hopefully there will be plenty to go around.
If you have any questions, email (tonellom@michigan.gov) or call me at 231 876-0855.
