Just wondering if I missed anything on the walleye opener. Looked like the river was ripping pretty good on Friday after the rain.

i don't think you missed too much. i didn't go for the same reason:rant:. hopefully the water slows down later this week. if it does, i will probably get out wednesday or thursday. as slow as the east side has been, there should still be some nice fish in the river. good luck.:fish:

Fished yesterday for a bit and today, caught one walleye each trip. River is not as dirty as you would expect and the drift is only about 0.9 mph with no wind. Had to fight the wind yesterday though!!!! Wind would put me at a dead standstill. Tonight was much better as far as wind was concerned.

Where do you guys fish on the Grand RIver? I live in Comstock Park, wondering where on a the river I could fish. Im hesitate to put my 18 foot fish n ski boat in a river. Not sure what to expect...really shallow around the comstock park area? would greatly appreciate it. thanks again guys. I went to the detroit river 2 weekends ago...fishing was really slow, we got skunked...still looking for my 1st walleye ever....FYI..thanks again

Well if I had to put money on it they were drifting on the Indian Channel.

and if that is the place you can put any boat in there, they used to run frieghters up to the gravel pits so there is a decent channel there.

Now on looked on this website that gives you the Boat launches anywhere you are in the State of Michigan. I live in Comstock Park and the closes launches to the River is the Rogue River Launch on West River Drive and South just norht of ann street. At the Rogue River would I be able to launch a 18 foot fish n ski boat?? Would it be even worth it to take the boat there and try to catch fish on the grand.....just never been out there before......do people acutally eat what they catch in the grand ? :) looking for bass, pike, and walleye...thanks guys!

Depths are very iffy, i dont see too many big boats out there. Seen a pontoon boat beached out in front of where i work by the leonard st. bridge and they had to pull themselves over to deeper water with there ancor. Launch by Rogue river isn't too bad, stay on the other side of the river and you may be fine. Fishing is fantastic for all species.

I haven't fished the above mentioned spots yet, but I'm sure there are fish there as well as all the way up to 6th street.

I wouldn't put a fiberglass boat in the Grand anywhere above the gravel puts upstream from the launch at Riverside Park in Nunica. Rogue River launch? No way.

Truly depends on how high the river is on the rogue launch and others. Right now its kinda low, the water temp last i checked was 64 deg.

Hit up the Willows and Indian Channel on Sunday, caught one 'eye. Still kinda windy, not nearly as bad as opening.

PHD,

I agree with Waterfoul, do not put a fiberglass boat in at the Rogue River launch. During late summer a 16 foot sea nymph can get a little hairy if you don't watch some of the bigger rocks when the river is way down. I haven't been down to CP since February, but if you do decide to take any boat with a motor on there make sure you run it in shallow drive anywhere between the Northland and Jupiter bridge. Tore a prop once at the head of the island just upstream from Jupiter. PM me if you have any specific questions.

IMO water temps are irrevelant at this time of the year until they get over 70 then fishing will tail off.
One of the biggest factors with water temp would be that warmer water would hold more bait fish but its not that simple because you must take into consideration light penetration etc.
