This is my first year Turkey hunting. My wife
and I are going to the Pigeon river state
forest area outside of Vanderbuilt. Anyone out there have any tips on a location for birds. We plan on camping in the Grass lake area.

Scouting for birds or sign is a good start.Ask local mailmen or storeclerks farmers and locals.Look for tracks and feathers,I shot a bird one year by finding just feathers.Get up early before day break and listen in areas you believe the birds roost. You may be able to locate some birds with a crow or goose call by shock gobbleing.
Try blowing the call once or twice and see if you can hear a tom respond.Good luck.
Maybe someone on here also knows the area and can help you also. Thanks for the info. I've bought various calls; friction, box, diaphrams, crow and owl. Been practicing, need to get some audio tapes of some hens.

Smitty - Check out "Spitting Feathers" vol. III by Knight & Hale. It helped me a alot, they go over every type call, even locators. I have a CD, but I'm sure it available on tape as well. Good Hunting, The Nailer
