I drew in Unit K for 5/4-5/15 and was wondering if anyone knew anyone who guided around there. Also best areas to look, I have never been in that area before. The odds of drawing looked good and as my third choice it came through. Any other info would be appreciated. If you would rather e-mail me that would also be fine.

area k is a great area to hunt, look into the manistee national forest, it is loaded with birds. i hunt in newaygo county on 160 acreas of land. i wen tup there the other day on my four-wheeler and i seen about 60 turkeys just driving around.
almost all the national forest land contains turkeys .
i have the same season as you do, this was the first year in about 6 years i didn't get the 2nd season, oh well just more of a challenge. if you have anymore questions just email me i will answer them to the best of my knowledge.

I've been hunting K for 13 years and have had good success when I'm able to draw a permit (haven't been lucky for the last 4 years plus this year). I'm getting fed up with having to hunt the "summer season". My parents live in K and feed the birds all year, but we can't hunt them until everyone else has been a-whoopin' up on 'em for a month. DNR - give us an open season!!!

Cheers

Ilive in area K and have been hunting spring gobblers here for 36 years. Our turkey numbers in Area K have been decreasing each year since 21999. An open season on a very limited turkey resouirce? No way-if you want to retain a quality one on one gobbler hunt. Most of my members wouldn't take the first hunt if you gave it to them. Most opt to hunt the last period by choice. I suggest that you not apply for the first hunt. There will still be plenty of gobblers when you get here. By the way- we furnish corn up to 13,000 Wild Turkeys in Area K each winter as we have for the past two decades.

Jim, president of the Pere Marquette Chapter of MWTHA, and a founder of MWTHA, as well as a legend in Michigan turkey hunting, as well as one of the very first turkey hunters in the state of Michigan, etc., etc., (should I go on, I could, very easily) discovered the web about a month ago, and now, I see, he's discovered the message boards.

Welcome!

PS-when booking a hunt in Area J, K, around the Clare area or many areas of northeastern lower Michigan, ask your guide if he is a financial supporter and member of the Pere Marquette, Traverse Bay, Mio/Ausable River Valley, or North Central Chapters of MWTHA-he should be, cause MWTHA is why a lot of those turkeys are there. You should be, too.

Hope to make it to the festival this year. I need to get another beard board made for the silent auction
