This Bird scores 50 for our team number13. It has 2 beards, 1 was 9 3/4" the other one was 5", both spurs are 1" long. If I did the math right it scores 50.
Now is the the right place to put the score?

Team Snood Dudes

Took my wife out today on her first EVER hunt, of any kind.

My camera is out of batteries - so I will load the spur / tag / beard shot later tonight.

Probably breaking the rules on where to post a story, but the other thread looks "spirited"

Shot my bird at 7 AM this morning (our first trip out this year) after getting him within 10 yards of us. My wife just could not get turned around quick enough to get him, (I was really bummed about it) before he spooked, and I took him at 45 yards. 23 lbs, 10" beard, both spurs 1" in length.

At 11:25 AM, called in another bird within 15 yards and she "whaaallloooppped" him with her 20 gauge. Took almost two hours for him to come into us, he gobbled that whole time and I think I only called 4 or 5 times that entire two hours. He weighed 25 lbs, sported a 9.75" beard and had 1.125" spurs.

What a great time. I was as excited for her as I was the first time I shot a bird. It was a truly special day in the woods. We were truly blessed today.

I have great pictures per requirements - each spur is 1" in length, and his beard is 10". Will post later this evening.

Great day to be in the woods today. Saw lots of deer, a coyote, pheasants, wood ducks, teal, wood peckers of all kinds and many species of birds. Got the entire hunt on video as well.

The forest was alive with sounds and it was great to hear my wife mention several times how fresh the spring air smelled, and how many little critters make sounds, including several hundred gobbles.

Called to two mature toms today, and called them both within 15 yards. I have to pinch myself, hope others were out today as well, enjoying.

that looks like a double beard to me... if it is coming out in two different spots (meaning not connected you get more points... you measure both the beards... its obviously hard to tell from the picture....

I'm not a double beard expert, but this one seems to be all growing from the same "chunk" of flesh. I can post a picture of it cut off the bird if there is a chance it could be a double beard.

It seems to that some people are having a problem with measuring spurs!! I'm sorry to say Pse but that was not an inch and 7 16ths. You might want to remeasure that one!!!:D I would say to use a different method. For example burn an inch, meaning don't use the metal end of the tape. But that is a sweet ass bird!!!!!! Nice kill!!!! You are not the only one with a lack of tape measuring skills..haha

Jimmy’s 04/21/2008 Turkey.


Here is the story:
a10ptbuck (Jimmy my son) got off work early and meet me around 11:30 AM. We were in the woods around noon.. We were walking to the spot where we decided to set up first and herd a gobble over by a pond on the property. Got set up and made a call, had two different toms answer from two different areas, they were both a long ways off and across some nasty wet areas. Calling and getting answered each time for 30 min. or so and finally herd them at maybe 50 yds. away, told jimmy to get ready, we were in a pop-up blind with the sides shooting windows open up and my back was toward the birds so Jimmy and I couldn't see them. The next think I new one of them birds gobble about 15 feet away behind me and I must have jump 6", good thing we were in the blind, my jumping would have spook them off. When a turkey gobbles that close to you and you don't know they are there, (what a rush) it was loud. Well there was 5 Jakes around us for what seems like an hour. I stop calling and Jimmy was looking for a long beard so we just waited them out until they left.
Next set up was the South East end of the property. It was in his pop-up blind. I called off and on for 30 min. with no answer, I ask Jimmy how much longer he wanted to stay here? He said maybe 10 more min. Well I was setting on the ground and couldn’t see too much. about 5 mins. had pass since I ask Jimmy how much longer he wanted to stay and we herd a warning puck, there was 2 Jakes about 20 feet from us, they must have seen us moving in the blind. Let them go. To shorten up the story some, we did a set up close to the North West part of the property and got an answer, (sounded like more then 1 tom was answering me), 1 did show himself about 70 yds away but went back to the others that were gobbling. I could not get them to come to us so I tried to sneak further away, to the North, the turkeys were South of us, I was calling as I went North and walked around a little East and West. They kept on answering my call but wouldn’t come any closer. I went back to Jimmy and told him we need to move on them. We gathered up our decoys and moved to the East, maybe 200 yds where we thought the birds were. We decided to try something different, Jimmy was to move closer to the birds but not to close. I was to wait till I think he was ready and start calling from 200 yds away. He didn’t set the decoys up this time. They answered right away and started to come toward me. Bang went his gun, I couldn’t see him, I yelled, Did you get him? Yes he said. His bird weight 22 lbs. Sorry for the long story

I couldn't agree more. I'd say it was more like 13/32.

Moot point, actually, since anything over 1 1/4" (e.g. 1 5/16 and up) qualifies for the max of 20 points on spurs.

As far as measuring skills go, I assume you're a guy, too. We all know how that goes...:lol:

If you buy your tag over the counter during the app period they are last years color. The DNR hasn't gotten the new licence material out to the vendors buy the time they go on sale. I have a yellow one too.

I haven't seen any problems with anyone's spurs.

If you feel there is anyone's spurs that need to be looked at please PM me the name and I will look it over and send a PM to Kelly Johnson. Even if it is my spurs you feel are not measured correctly. I dont want anyone to feel they are being cheated. I didnt make this contest for there to be problems or for anyone to feel cheated. If you feel the need PLEASE PM me and we can get it resolved. I have done my best to make sure things have went smooth and made sure things are ran fair. I even took points away from a very close family friend, because I didnt see a picture to follow the rules. I am not judging anything, just making sure the rules are followed.

Beard Length - Not sure, will try to get a photo of it, I am thinking it is under the plastic.

Hopefully, the tag on him is clearly visible.

Spurs - did not have any, and as PSE said, "0" is still worth 5 points each.

He weighs in at a whopping 14 lbs. dressed. He carries one heck of a snood, and was showing his red colors brilliantly before he shot him.

He said that he thought there was a whole flock just like him laying there, even after the first shot. ( I guess it took a few shots to get him).
