As perhaps some of you know, both the NRC and the Michigan House of Representitives are considering expanding the criteria that will allow a person with a disability to hunt with a crossbow. My contention is that ANY expansion is 100% certain to include some while excluding others, yet some of those excluded are still unable to pull and/or hold along-, or compound-bow.
I further contend that excluding certain people based on overly-restrictive criteria is discrimination. And under the provisions of the ADA, it is illegal to discriminate against a person witha disability.
I advocate that there be NO criteria other than for a person to obtain and produce a letter from one's personal physician stating that in his/her professional opinion, the applicant has either a temporary or permanent disability that render the person unable to pull and/or hold along-, or compound-bow.
Is this some far out radical thinking? Hell no! In fact, its EXACTLY how they handle things in the state of Maryland. Take just a few minutes and scoll through their document regarding crossbows. Thoroughly read the form. (If someone knows how to cut and paste it for this forum, that would be great.) Maryland is a mirror image of what I am proposing how we handle things here in Michigan.
Tell ya what...This document is already on its way to Lansing so they don't think that they have to reinvent the wheel!
