Ok guys my dad and I have been debating a few things when it comes to shooting a turkey with our bows.

Is it better to have the arrow stay in the bird or pass thru?
How would a slick trick kill a turkey if you were to shoot it in the head or the base of the neck.
Would it be better to have a bullhead or guillotine and our slick tricks?
Is it easier to shoot a turkey in the head vs vitals? We are trying to decide on what to do as far as buying some guillotine or bullheads, what shot is better and so on. As far as the vitals and head go I know either one is going to kill it, I just know how much a turkey moves its head and am wondering if it would be easier to hit the vitals. However, with a head shot it is hit or miss and with the vitals being so small I dont want to leave a bird wounded.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

the guillotines are hard to use im not going to lie... they do shoot a bit different than regular broadheads... HEAVY AS HECK... also when you pull back (at least with my bow) i had a blade on each side of my site... and BEHIND IT:yikes:.... so things could go wrong...

As far as actually hitting and getting the bird i would definitely go with a regular broadhead... because if you dont hit perfect on the neck you can have a turkey that runs sideways bouncing into trees and going off and hiding before you can get to it.... just trust me on that one....

I would personally go with spitfires....they have an 1.5 inch cutting diameter and fly EXACTLY like field tips.... and cut a massive hole... i have had arrows go all the way through and arrows that stayed in... didnt seem to matter....however i have always heard that the arrows staying in cuts more... which makes sense but i dont really care either way... depends where you hit them....

head shots are obviously harder... watch a turkey video and watch how much turkeys move their head... you have to yelp real quick and shoot as soon as they perk their head up.... if you really wanted to go for the head i would try the new ones that just came out....the bullheads

and now you owe me a page on this paper im writing...

Personally its not about the contest, I just want to make sure the animal is cleanly killed.

If there is anyone else who has and questions or tips then feel free to post them here. That is what I made this for, I wont feel like you are hijacking my thread or anything. It is all part of the contest. Make sure everyone has a fun, successful, and safe hunt.

I shot my first 2 turkeys with a bow. Used the same broadheads as I use for deer , but with an arrow stopper added. Shot the same out to 20 yards. First bird was at 8 yards , 2nd at 5. Arrow stayed in and they went down in a hurry.
On the first one , when he seen me draw , he turned and started to walk straight away from me. I shot him in the middle of the back. ( I was standing up ) No problem getting into the vitals from the back , but alot of folks don't think about that shot.
Now , this is just me , but I'd forget about the head and go for the vitals. About the same size target , but much more stable. They bob their heads too much for me.
If you think you can hit the head , you can hit the vitals.

Doesn't matter as long as you hit them in the right spot. A fixed blade head may keep cutting if it stays in the bird, but obviously the blades are smaller than a mechanical head, so the entrance hole may not do as much damage as a mechanical. The bird I shot last fall with a Rage 2 blade actually left a blood trail after the arrow passed through him.

How would a slick trick kill a turkey if you were to shoot it in the head or the base of the neck.
If you get a solid hit on either the head or neck the bird will drop in his tracks.

Would it be better to have a bullhead or guillotine and our slick tricks?
Obviously the Guillotine or Bullhead will give you a little more room for error on head/neck shots, and the ST will be better for body shots. I usually carry separate broadheads for body and head shots.

Is it easier to shoot a turkey in the head vs vitals?
If you are talking surface area, the head and neck are actually a larger target than the vitals on a turkey, but like you said the head is almost always moving. I have been carrying Guillotines with me for the last two seasons and still haven't had a good shot opportunity with them...both my birds were shot at about 28 yards the last two years, and I am just not confident shooting the Guillotines that far. I am currently trying the Bullheads, but not sure if I will be using them here in a couple weeks....still have some fine tuning to do.

I had to buy longer arrows for my guillotines and resight everything in due to the blades hitting the shelf. Kind of a pain in the neck. Never got the chance to lay one on a tom.
