Family fishing vacation

I am located in central Indiana and am looking for a lake in the northern Lower Peninsula or central or eastern U.P. that has decent walleye fishing, cabins for rent and is not overrun by jet skis, etc. Anyone out there have any recommendations? Thanks and best fishes to you all!

just tossing my .02 in--why not add a few more miles and go into Ontario where you can be on lakes where no one is fishing you would have to tent but the eye fishing can be awesome and you will see moose on the water and a few bears.

ANGLER JAKE, TRY HUBBARD LAKE NEAR ALPENA. ITS FULL OF DECENT WALLEYES(16"-22"),NOT MUCH BOAT TRAFFIC, AND GOOD CABINS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE BRINGING A FAMILY. IT HAS A GOOD POPULATION OF PIKE AND SMALLMOUTH. IF YOU HAVE TIME I'D HIT FLETCHER POND FOR GREAT PIKE AND BASS, OR I'VE DONE REAL GOOD ON SALMON RUNNING UP THE THUNDER BAY RIVER IN ALPENA IN LATE SEPTEMBER AND EARLY OCTOBER. ALL THREE SPOTS HAVE PRODUCED FOR ME.

I always go to St.Ignace and stay right in town ,rooms are almost 1/3 to 1/2 off regular prices,I pay 25.00 a night and stay right on the lake. Its a great area and a short drive to some interesting places. I dont know about walleye fishing there, but there is several nice lakes in the area,one being Burt lake (maybe someone here can give some info on it ) .I always fish for salmon and trout. Take your waders and give it a try. I drive 10 hrs from southern Indiana,I love it up there !!:D

i WENT UP TO A LAKE IN oNTARIO THIS PAST SPRING GOT THERE mAY 25TH. SNOW ALMOST TO OUR KNEES CAN SEND A PIC OF THE SNOW WE GOT THERE BEFORE THE SPAWN SO CAUGHT 99% MALES LARGEST FEMALE 27.5 INCHES BUT WE CAUGHT EYES BY THE HUNDREDS PER HOUR 5 OF US CAN'T COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES WE ALL HAD eyes on at the same time.
It was the best fishing I have ever seen--took a guy with me who had only caught one eye in his life and him and I keep track for one hour and put 54 in the boat had another 30 plus come off when lifting from the watewr not usaing a net and don't know how many were hooked and got off before coming up all lthis in one hour.
It was 1088 miles from my home in central michigan town called Clare.
MY ANCESTORS are from Kendaville and my wife'S ARE FROM Columbiacity In.
This is a long trip but the scenery was fantastic and I will be going back this spring don't know how the fishing is other parts of the year but we caught them in bays that had large rivers coming them and the eyes -males were there mustt be waiting for the ladies.

Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. Centrally located with good accomodations available and both have populations of a variety of fish, including walleye. Burt Lake is another good bet. If you want to venture further north, I'd suggest Little Bay De Noc in the Upper Peninsula. Also good accomodations with a variety of fish. Very good walleye. After several years, I quit going to Canada long ago. Seems all they wanted was my American dollars. Maybe thats just my experience. Thats when I decided to spend my money in the U.S. Also learned that some of the best fishing is right here in Michigan. Hope you enjoy the vacation.

Guys have given some great places to go. I don't fish Canada because of the incredible fishing we have right here in this state. I like little bay denoc for the accomadations and fall fishing. It may be a little of drive. In the northern lower hubbard lake and Houghton lake would be in the top ten places. On the west side of the state Hamlin lake in Ludington I here has been producing fish all year just have not been there to confirm it. Fall fishing is usually good where ever you go.
