Has anybody ever fished Trout Lake at Island Lake Rec Area? I see that the DNR has planted trout in it but I rarely see anybody fishing there. It seems that this lake is an old gravel pit with limited access to boaters. Any info or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've never fished there but I've passed by it several times while on the mtn biking trail that goes by there...I hope to try it this fall, if I do I'll let you know....

Is that Spring mill pond that you are talking about? I am pretty sure that the DNR stocks that with trout. Matter of fact, there is a picture of a beautiful trout that was caught in that pond at CCW Lures on Grand River in New Hudson.

Spring Mill Pond is part of the pre-season stocker program just like the upper Huron. C+R, lures only from April 1 until the start of regular season. After the start of regular season all regular rules apply and the limit is, if I remember correctly, three fish.
I have never fished Trout Lk., but have rode the above mentioned trail around it a few times. I seem to recall that it gets pounded pretty hard and access for both shore and boat fishing does look limited. I haven't been there in a few years, but I remember that it looks small enough that you might not be allowed to use a motor.
