Fished South Lake Saturday, 9/7 from 1:30pm - 4:00pm with my kids. With the recommendation of a member from this site, I tried a particular weed bed/dropoff. It took a little while to find the fish, but after we did we got into some good fishing, including some decent legal sized bass. First fish was a 11" white crappie caught on a minnow under a bobber, nice fish. Next we decided to troll the dropoff edge and we got into some 12-15" bass using minnows on 1/8oz jigs. We were casting into 12" deep water, and dragging the minnow out across the sharp dropoff. The bass were waiting just at the drop, in about 24" of water and a very steep slope. We were using ultralight rods and it was alot of fun.
Weather was in the upper 80's, mostly sunny skies and light breezes; more wind would have been nice to cool us off. We ran into a bunch of guys coming off the water from a Downriver Bass club tournament, they reported not much luck.
