How did you get introduced into the hunting/fishing sports? Parent(s)? Friend(s)? Husband? et cetera....
I grew up around hunting and fishing. My dad and brother hunted and I would often go along with them. I didn't hunt, but enjoyed the outdoors. My husband (boyfriend then) introduced me to hunting and I enjoyed it so much that I bought my own guns. I couldn't get enough with just firearms deer season, so I started in archery and bowhunting. Now I love bowhunting best of all, even though my husband doesn't participate.

I have always enjoyed the outdoors. I have very vivid memories of fishing and hunting morel mushrooms as a child. No one in my family was a hunter, which is a shame, because they have some nice wooded land in Indiana. My husband encouraged/pestered me for the last four years to get involved. I swore for years I would never do it. As you know I did "do it" and am hooked. He is thrilled to have me as a hunting partner, and calls me his "Huntress". I am looking forward to many years of hunting adventures with my husband and our children.
Best Regards,
Huntress

My dad intoduced me to fishing. As far as hunting that credit goes to my husband Birdog. I moved to the UP from a big city and knew nothing of the outdoors and hunting. It didn't take long to get the grasp of it cuz I got involved in his guide service helping bait the bears. He taught me the basics such as this is the key to the buggy this is the gas. After getting lost a gazillian times finding my way out of the woods by myself and in time to get to work you figure out how to look for landmarks and such. Your prob thinking how can you get lost, well many of the baits were new spots that year and the trail was not too clear. There was alot of brush and you could not see a fourwheeler trail easily so I got turned around. I'd get pretty steamed good thibg I never seen a bear cuz at that time I think I could have took him.
Hubby was with me when I shot my first deer then I was on my own. They talked me threw how to gut out that first buck video taping it and chuckling all the while but I did it. Now I do everything myself. But that is how I learn best by doing, I can't learn easily watching others. Theres still alot to learn as there is for any hunter, everyday in the woods brings a new experience. I'm sure glad I've been giving the oppurtunity. Born

I would have to say it was my Dad... then Mr. Michigan Outdoors himself, Mort Neff every Thursday evening!
I have memories of fishing with my Dad as far back as I can remember ... and taking family rides on Sundays to 'spot deer', and hunt mushrooms, and shed antlers in the winter months (once getting a graphic lesson on how/why the poor chipmunk I found froze to death rolled up in the snow), and autumn color tours. My brother and I "grew up" on a NRA .22 gun range, shooting competition. I have memories of trying to keep up with my Dad's long steps in the tall swamp grass, getting behind and lost, because I wanted to tag along deer hunting and knowing I had to be REALLY quiet.
Then, the wonderful day when I was FINALLY old enough to carry a gun and go pheasant hunting with my Dad!!! Hunting is in my blood. It fills my head with wonder and awe of our natural surroundings and all the creatures in it. I respect and revere the outdoors and pray I will always be able to enjoy it as I do now.
And for that, I can thank my Dad, Mort Neff, and our great NRA shooting instructor. I would wish for all children to have such great experiences. ~ m ~

I am new to hunting. Most of my male friends hunt and got their girlfriends interested. Once they were going, I HAD to try! I shot my bow for two years and this past fall I hunted for the first time. I'm so hooked, I think about it all the time! My boyfriend is very incouraging. I got alot of info from BOW programs. Through BOW, I went on my first pheasant hunt. Now I'm looking for a chance to rabbit hunt!

Hello everyone! New to this site. Looks like I'll be here often. I also grew up in a hunting family, the only child of older parents. The entire family (Aunts, Uncles, parents and cousins) hunted, fished,& raised all our own food. I was eighteen (in college) before I realized that venison, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, & native Michigan fish was NOT the norm! Thank God my husband is of the same type of family or I would be eating that menu alone! I love it and our way of life. A big congrats to our newer huntresses out there, it's way of life that gets into your blood and stays there!

I grew up in a hunting family too. We also lived on a farm and my family hunts which helped get me started. My brother and I spent a lot of hours rabbit hunting when we were kids. I started deer hunting as soon as I was old enough but didn't get my first buck until I was 17. With a double barrel 10 gauge magnum. KABOOM!
I didn't see another deer (in season/in range) for the next 10 years. Exactly. Pretty sad considering I had 80 acres to hunt. My hunting partner finally persuaded me get off the farm and give the State game area a try. Now I get a deer every year and some years I get a buck and a doe. My hunting partner got me a bow about 7 years ago and I've taken a spike, a 5 point and several doe with it. I still like rifle hunting but the older I get, the more I like bow hunting. The State land where we hunt is overrun with hunters during the rifle season. Orange on every hill :( and every year there's more and more bowhunters too. But not quite as crowded as rifle season.
