View Full Version : Let's send another youth on a hunt!

As some of you know, there is a hog hunt that is taking place this weekend. My nephew is one of the recipients of the hog hunts as a result of the generosity of the members of this website.
As a result of this generosity, my father in law would like to "pay it back."
He would like to offer the opportunity for a youth to hunt turkeys with him on his property in Hesperia(with a parent accompanying). The hunt would take place during the 234 hunting season/zone. The hunt would be a full weekend, starting Friday afternoon and lasting through Sunday. This is good for any weekend during the season.
The youth and parent will be provided rustic(but newer) lodging for the weekend. My father in law will provide elk burgers one night for dinner. They would be responsible for the rest of their meals. Grilling is an option, plus there are restaurants and a grocery store nearby.
There are several blinds set-up throughout the property plus he has a couple pop-up blinds. Our success rate has been pretty high up there for the last 5 years that I have been hunting.
This offer is for anyone 16 and under who has a 234 tag and has not been picked for one of the previous hunts. If you have a youth who would like to be in on the drawing, please have them post below. The deadline to register is April 21'st. On April 22'nd, I will randomly draw a winner and their name will be posted on here. Pass the word around...Let's get some more youth involved in hunting.

I think this is great. God bless all who take the time. I myself could offer a bow hunt on private property to a youngster and his father or mom. As long as they are liscensed, I would also be happy to give back to a way of life that has been good for my soul.:)

It really is contageous and very rewarding seeing someone of this age bracket being introduced to the outdoors and through efforts such as this and what we have done for the kids on the pig hunt.. We hope this will instill the correct principals and I am certain this will not soon be forgotten and in turn we hope they will do the same thing when they are old enough and in our positions now!! For the kids that have never experienced anything like it we will hopefully be laying down the foundation for what is to come many more kids down the road!
Thanks Again Guys!! Hats Off To Ya!
TJStebb - If you have paypal it is not yet too late to contribute if you wish too.. SRConnell22 as of now is picking up one hunt by himself and sure he would not mind if you kicked in a couple bucks to help the cause! Let me know!

Knight i was just wondering if this is for gun only, or bow only or if it is choice. I have two daughters 16 and 13 that will only shoot with a bow. I just wanted to make sure. Thank you and very much appericated.
Dallas, 16
Montana, 13
Just in case a bow can be used i would like to enter them.
Thanks again. Kevin.

Kevin,
Yes, bow hunting would be possible. We have a couple pop up blinds, so they can enter the contest as well.
Good luck Dallas and Montana!

knight,
did you pick a winner?
tjstebb
Looks like we have three youth hunters entered in the contest:
Dakota 13
Montana 13
Dallas 16
Good luck!
I will be randomly picking a winner later today. Check back later today to see who won.
As a side note, my nephew Nick shot a nice Tom opening morning up at the same property this youth will be hunting.
It was 23#, 1 1/8 " spurs, and 8 1/4 " beard. Looks like the hunting should be good!
I know there are some quite a bit bigger than that out there.

Dan
I must say you are a top notch guy, from what I have read and what you are doing for these kids. Its people like you that make this site awesome and good for the sport. To the others that have donated a hunt you also are a gift to these kids.
One day I will try to do the same thing

Deer Slayer - Thank you for the words!! However I am just doing what I can to make sure that the kids get involved and to pass on any little bit that I can!
Dakota - You are the man! Thanks for making our hunt quick and easy!! Especially making sure I didnt have to go chasing down any birds:lol:
Success came at about 6:30 AM.. 20 plus pound bird, 9 3/4" bird and did not officially measure but I would have to say close to an inch spurs.. I know there were some pretty big smiles and one proud papa after that shot though!
Congrats Again Guys!

Kevin,
Hope Montana and Keith had a successful hunt this weekend. My wife and I sat in the back field that Montana and Keith sat in last weekend. We had a jake and a hen in front of us for two hours but no big gobbler.
On a side note, I think you left a sleeping bag by the cabin. We'll have to get it back to you sometime, unless you are coming up for bow hunting in October.
