Did anybody else see the guy in the canoe at 3 pm in Gibraltar on Saturday? :yikes: It looked liked a 12fter with only a side mounted trolling motor, the guy did have a life jacket on but it was rolling 2ft waves in from the lake. I thought I would have to save him every time a boat passed him a wake! :gaga: I swear I'm taking the camera next time!

...missed that one but did see 6 huge guys in a 16 ft'r.
The good part was 2 of em were handlining while the other 4 were "dredging" the river with rod and reel.
It looked more like 6 monkeys trying to F a football.:dizzy:
Trenton Channel in april always reminds me of the part in Jaws the movie, when they opened season on the man eater.:)

They had a black lab in the boat w/ them. I would say safer on the river than Erie but still.... Scary
I saw him, he was close to shore and out of the wind and I thought- thats not too bad
and then he paddled out and headed up river :yikes:

ive done some white water on a canoe in ontario and they handle pretty well but it was only like 2ft deep under me so if that guy flipped he would have been screwed depending on how deep it was.

Saw a guy Sunday doing rowing practice on the upper. He did have a boat following him with a bullhorn screaming directions and corrections. Slimline, competition style boat. To cold for that crap.

Last year while perch fishing over in Canada(river) I see this "tub" come around the corner of the channel, this thing was literally a tub. It was 8' long at the most,,, 2 older timers, sitting on buckets with a 1926 3hp Johnson, jerryrigged on the back of this thing. The motor looked like something they made in their garage,, when they were kids,, probably in the 1920's as well. It was riding literally 3" above the water. They throw out an anchor and start fishing.:dizzy: Two minutes after they start fishing, the OPP comes zinging around the corner and tells them to "get that hunk of shitt" back on land.

 That guy is all over the lower end of the river. I think he lives on Grosse Isle and comes over to Humbug Marsh and takes all those narrow streams thru the marsh and also paddles all over the canals thru Gibraltar. If it's the same guy, he's VERY experienced. Maybe not too bright though, lol!

I rescued a Kayaker last summer from the river near the golf course in Wyandotte. She had been in the water for 30 minutes floating down the river in the middle of the day. Luckily she had a whistle and I was paying attention. It was amazing how difficult it was to see a person floating in the water, scary really.

Handliner2,
In the near future you are more than likely going to see more Canoes and Kayaks after the (canoe/kayak) launch is put in at Humbug Marsh.

Dude! my friend has a kayak that has rod holders built into it. I t requires no paddles either, it is driven by foot pedals. He straps it on the car and goes to lizzy and farts around all summer in the river. I told him one day he is going to capsize or something, but he hasn't. He catches more bass than me in the thoroughfare canal.

It never ceases to amaze me how people risk their lives and the lives others who would try to rescue them when they pull a bone headed stunt like that in 35 degree water.

Seen a guy in a canoe last year launch at Lizzy and paddle down to humbug and then back up again, hugging the shore by the Edison plant,
Thought he was crazy then saw he had plates from Alaska and figured this was just childs play for him.....
On another note,
The two kids that launched at Trenton last year in a rubber raft with pieces of plywood for paddles and both were fishing in front of the Condo's has got to take the Darwin Award so far.....
The LE that called them in wasn't to happy.....

Thats a kayak launch?? That ought to be real entertaining this summer. Hmmm a floating dock right next to a public pier??? I seen people fishing on that over the weekend. I was trying to figure out where it came from.
