Thinking strongly about going to Huron in late October. Heard rumors of great walleye and perch fishing out of that port at that time. Anyone have any factual information about fishing in that area of Lake Erie? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Duane, Huron is great in October. The fishing is already getting very good there. I had 2 clients out there on Friday and did very well. We started out perch fishing and got our 90 fish in 45 minutes. The weight was 49 lbs for 90 fish. We were throwing back anything under 10 inches. We than trolled for eyes and ended up with 11, 2 of which went over 9 lbs. As the water cools the fishing gets even better for the eyes. Limits of 8-12 lbers are not uncommon. Last year there were several fish taken that went over 15 lbs. My personal best last year was a 14.11 lb Eye. The hot baits during Oct. are all of the ReefRunners Crankbaits. You will not be sorry by taking a trip up there. The fishing will continue to be good all the way up through iceup. Hope this helps.

WalleyeWiz I am going to be fishing there in 2 weeks what would you suggest using crankbaits or crawler harnesses? Do you use planer boards, dipsey divers or downriggers? How deep are you fishing? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. Dkuiper I will post how we do when I get back I also have heard how good Huron is for the big eyes so I can't wait to give it a try. :)

Took 2 clients out today 9/16. Trolled the 30/30 lines with great results. Took 18 fish in 2 hours. Fished 42 ft of water. Trolled with spoons and crawler harnesses at 1.2-2.0 mph.2 fish were over 29 inchs. Nothing under 23inches. Fishing will only get better as the lake temp cools.

Capt'n Dwayne,
Sounds like you had a great day on the lake. Way to go! Were you fishing with the small dipseys off planer boards? How far back were you running that stuff and how deep to you figure they were running? Thanks for any info you can share. We'll be over there sometime Monday afternoon and plan on staying 3-4 days depending on the weather. Sure would like to get into some fish like you did Monday. Hoping to talk to you when we are there.
Brent the Canuck, we are probably going to miss you Monday. We are getting a little later start than we originally planned on. Hope you get into the fish.

Duane, I run the fish seekers with the spoons and harnesses. Depending on how many guys I have on board I run either off the Offshore boards or my twin ski boards off the mast. All the fish today were caught in the 38-40 ft depths in 42 ft of water.I prefer the fish seekers devices over the dipseys due to the fact that you need less line out to reach the depths we needed to get to.
I will not be up to the Huron area again untill 9/28. The next couple of trips I have booked I will be night fishing casting cranks over some rock piles in the Western Baisin.
Good Luck on your trip to Huron. Most of the guys there moniter channal 79 on the marine radio and are heplful in getting you on some fish.

Hey Duane, Just wondering how you guys did out there? I fished up there on Thurs. the 26 . We ended up with 16 Eyes. The patteren has changed to a crankbait bite up in the top 10-20 feet of water. We ran Ripsticks any where from 40 -100 ft back to catch our fish.

Hi Capt'n Dwayne,
Really enjoyed fishing out of Huron. Did not do as well as we should have but we did get some quality fish. Monday evening we fished four hours and put two eyes in the boat using dipseys off the twin ski boards, Tuesday we followed the same program and put four in the boat. Wednesday we went a little west from where we had been fishing, 28-29/33 line and switched to reefrunners and hot n tots 60-100 foot back and came in with 8 really nice eyes. Lost a couple at the net, too. And a couple of hard strikes that the fish were just not there when we got to the rods. Stayed at the Gull Motel with fish cleaning station!! Launch ramp right across the street and Beradis restuarant a block away. GREAT!! We enjoyed it so much we'll be back the 3rd week of October. Thanks for you input and info. Really appreciate it.
