actually i hope i get his bigger brother who was walking with him... mine had a 12 and 15/16 in beard and the one that was with him had a bigger one:yikes:

but my bird had big ol spurs.... the other one could have been spurless...

Dan i actually saw the turkeys... where they came from and where they were going when i was bow hunting deer last fall... i mean..... when i uhhhhh ahhh crap... i let it out of the bag now.... my delete button doesnt work... guess i have to just admit it...

i would like to know where you are setting up though.... i only really saw one good place on YOUR property to set up.... let me know if you see the key word in that sentence... i would be talking to the land owners... the grass is always greener on the other side :)

Let's see your bird's from last year guy's!!

Here's mine 10 1/4 beard and 1 1/2 spur's and 25 pounds.....set-up close to a well know roost tree and rate after light he flew down with three other's and come rate into the decoy's and i blasted him at about 5 yard's!!

Turkey hunting just doesnt do the same thing for me as big game.. 10" bird is not really alot to brag about.. Throw another couple inches on and for sure.. I am sure if I shot him with a bow I would have took the picture too but truth is the hunt lasted all of about 20 minutes and I blew him over at 30 yards with some Hevi Shot.. Wasnt really a hunt worth bragging about.. That bird was just Dumb! :D

Now that we put a contest together this makes it more interesting and this year will be a little more to look forward too!

yeah thats why im not a HUGE fan of gunning a turkey and i absolutly hate to watch it on hunting shows.... its so much more fun to watch them get a turkey with a bow than a gun.... i mean the puff of feathers is cool and all but its only cool so many times... ill take my bow

I am sitting here this morning getting ready to go to work and I looked out my bedroom window and I see a deer coming up through the woods so I get my son up to the window and we watch 2 deer for a few minutes and then just cause... I pulled out the mouth call and started singing a tune to the turkeys out my bedroom window.. I have seen a few turkeys back there but not often.. No response (wasnt expecting one) Just wanted to see if I still had it! so after a few minutes of this i go back to getting ready for work and about 25 minutes later my dog is whimpering and whining so I figure he has to go to the bathroom and go to let him outside.. Open up the door and holy chit.. There is a jake 5 yards off my back porch!! I had to grab the dog just as he was bolting out the door! I couldnt believe it!!

Just thought I would share that!

Anyway.. Off to work I go!

reminds me of a time i was working for my dad (doing drywall) and i heard turkeys gobbling about 200 yards away in this woods so i went out and got my turkey calls out of my truck and went back in the house and kept doing work... well the road was about 100 yards and i called 4 monster toms up to the edge of the road and they wouldnt cross the road they just kept strutting in the field... and when i was leaving the job site i let out some hen yelps at the end of the driveway about 20 yards away they gave out a thunderous set of gobbles and the guys i was working with just started shaking their heads.... i fogot to mention it was turkey season... and i hadnt gotten my turkey yet... but i didnt own the land so they got a free walk... if they would have crossed the road it was my uncles land :)

congrats on calling in the Tom Dan, and may it not be the only one you call in this year...... awwwwwwwww that was the nicest thing i have said on this board:smile-mad

2 up & 2 down!! Both birds at about about 50 yards and rolled them both!!

1st one was done by 8:15 and the 2nd by noon..

Big ole birds.. I might bet Craig (Hunterhawk) wants me to post up some measurements.. :confused:

Congrats guys.

2 up & 2 down!! Both birds at about about 50 yards and rolled them both!!

1st one was done by 8:15 and the 2nd by noon..

I will let Mack tell his story but here is mine!

After the morning hunt we went back to Macks house to drop off his bird and then we went to my place and got there at about 10:15 and setup by 10:30 and started calling intermitently for about 20 minutes on and off and No Response No Nothing.. And just walking out there we saw 2 hens so we knew the toms were not too far away.. so about 10 minutes after i had stopped I let out a few more excited yelps and shortly after noticed movement to my right in the woods.. They rarely ever come through the woods so I was set up all wrong for that cause the deeks were on the edge of the tracks.. Anyway the lead bird was about a 8-9" beard and 4 other Jakes.. Not a peep one out of them, not even the Jakes.. Could not figure that one out cause normally the jakes hammer away at a fart in the air.. Then we proceeded to watch these Jakes gang up on the Tom and start bullying him around and pushing him right out of the woods so once they were out of sight i waited about 5 minutes and started to call again and within a few more minutes I see movement again in the woods and its a hen and she works her way past us at about 40 yards and once she was out of sight we picked up the B-Mobile and wifey and made our way over to the edge of the powerline and setup right on the edge with the deeks about 10 yards behind me and 10 yards out in the power line and and started calling.. 15 minutes go by and nothing.. So after about 5 more minutes and still no birds I turned around and told Mack to start calling and then I would cut into him and we would simulate a hen fight and we started that and got into it pretty intense and I hear Mack.. "Gobble" and pointed up into the woods and so we kept going and heard another gobble and another and there were like 3 different birds gobbling and I was watching right down the power line cause that one sounded the closest and then I hear Mack.. "Gobbler" "Other side of the power line 75 yards strutting" Now I see him and let out a few soft yelps cause at this point i am certain he sees the decoys and he hammers away and from the time I seen him till the Benelli blew him over I am not sure he came out of strut until the final hoorah at about 45-50 yards when I started cutting real hard and up popped his head and KAPOW!

The rest is history..

Those pictures of Macks Spurs is misleading cause they look like an inch but they are actually 1 1/8" .. NO BS Either.. We will retake the picture from an angle directly over so you can see..

The spurs have to be bigger than 1 1/4 inch. I did the same thing the other day.

As soon as your pictures are posted the the correct thread, uploaded into MS turkey gallery, and you have both spurs then you guys will take the lead. I bet that will break Hawks heart. I actually think that Hawk could care less about winning, I just think he wants to beat you guys. :lol:

Ya i got my bird but it was a jake!! but had awesome footage and the hunt will be airing in about a month or two on tv!!!

It was my first kill on tape and i was happy with the bird!!! Plus Jason is going to make him into a cedar spur decoy for me!!
