I Lost my first batch, actually the 33rd batch I’ve brewed.

Used White Labs California ale yeast (WLP 001) for the first time. Knew I was in trouble when it took 48 hours to begin fermenting then took of with a gusto, three weeks later it looks like a milk shake.

Took a gravity reading today and a taste test, BLAH! Sour with metallic flavors.

Oh well, it happens to everybody, even professional brewers.

That is a bummer. Do you still have the yeast container and was it expired?

No, the yeast was fresh. Looking threw my notes I was low on propane, last 30 minutes was more of a simmer than a boil, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Tonight I'm racking a brown ale which will turn out to be pretty good, that will make up for it.:)

That sucks! Did you dump it? If you haven't yet, you should bottle up a few bombers and set them aside for a couple months and see what happens. You never know what it may turn out to be.

Thought about that; some one else suggested making vinegar, I took another taste and dumped it. Nothing would save it.
