2008 Spring Turkey Contest

Ok this is for the guys that do want a contest. I would appreciate it if you guys that dont want to be part of this dont post anything NEGITIVE here. If you want to state your opinion post it on this thread.

Here is what I think for teams.

4-5 guys on a team.
Toms with 7'' or better will be 15 points.
Jakes with 2'' or smaller will be 5 points.
Jakes with beards bigger than 2'' will be 10 points.
Bearded hens will be the same as above.You will have to have a CLEAR picture of the beard and a tape measure so there is not arguements.

We could also do different points for gun or bow if you guys would like to.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

If you have any ideas then throw them out and we can all come up with the rules together.

I would not award extra points for bow.. There are alot of folks on here just getting into it and I would rather see succesful hunts.. Just my Opinion..

What do you guys think.

Jakes with 2'' or smaller will be 5 points.
Jakes with beards bigger than 2'' and up to 6'' will be 10 points.
Toms with beards bigger 6''and up to 8'' will be 15 points.
Toms with bigger than 8'' will be 20 points.
Bearded hens will be the same as above.
Your bird must be a LEGAL MICHIGAN killed bird.
Spurs less than 3/4'' are worth 5 points
Spurs bigger than 3/4'' are worth 7 points
Hens get an 3 extra added. (because they have no spurs and are kind of rare.)Rules on measuring

The longest strand of the beard.
Double beards count for two seperate scores.Pictures/Proof


You will have to have a CLEAR picture of the beard and a tape measure so there is not arguements.
You kill tag MUST be showing in at least ONE the picture for it to be entered in the contest.(Does not have to be shown in the picture of the tape measure too)
The contest will run from April 21st- May 31st, 2008 and the winners will be declaired June 1st 2008.

IMPORTANT DATES

Anyone that wishes to be part of this contest must be on a team by 5:00 PM on April the 19th.

The contest will run from April 21st -May 31st, 2008. The winner will be announced on June 1st, 2008


TEAMS

Teams will consist of 5-6 guys.
Team will be picked by them members involved.
You are responsible for picking a team with the members involved.
You team can decide if they wish to be a gun, bow, or mixed team.
Team names MUST appropriate for all ages and sex's and must be approved my Steve.(Michigan Sportsman is a family site)


PICTURES/ BIRD KILLS

Any LEAGL turkey counts.

All pictures MUST be uploaded into the MS Turkey Gallery to count in the 2008 Spring Turkey Contest.

All turkeys MUST be taken legally taken in Michigan.

All pictures MUST have a CLEAR picture of the beard length with a tape measure for reference so there is no arguments over beard size.

All turkeys entered MUST CLEARLY show ONE picture with a 2008 kill tag attached to the bird.

SCORING

Jakes with beards 2'' or less will be 5 POINTS
Jakes or Tom with beards bigger than 2 '' but smaller 6'' will be 10 POINTS
Toms with beards between 6''-8'' will be 15 POINTS
Toms with beards bigger than 8'' will be 20 POINTS
Bearded hens will be worth an automatic 10 POINTS and will get the same scoring as Jakes and Toms beards. (Because they are rare)

*** Multiple beards count. For instance you shoot a Tom with 3 beards, one 1 inch beard, one 5 inch beard and one 10 inch beard. You would get a total of 35 POINTS

I will let you guys know more after Steve decides on the final rules.

Also, I am working on getting a few judges. I am going to try and have moderators that are not going to be involved in the contest. But Ill let you know. Any mods that are interested please let me know.

jeremey i just thought of something... how much are smokey greys worth?

You tell me I am not making all the rules. I would like someone else to make some of the rules.

What do you think it should be worth?

Maybe an extra 10 points plus the beards.

Hens are the same as the jakes and toms with no extra.

Guys...just wanted to throw in my 2 cents for the contest. If you want to simplify the scoring and keeping track of what everyone shoots, take a look at how the Archerytalk turkey contest is being run....

All birds are scored with the N.W.T.F. scoring calculator, http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/turkey_score.html , which makes it VERY easy for everyone to score their own bird...just plug in the numbers and then post them on the scoring thread. It also gives the hunter an idea of how well his bird actually scores if he wants to enter it in the books. I agree with all of the photos...this is how we have to post on the Mathews forum as well.

Also, I would just as soon see the teams randomly picked...just my opinion. Whatever happens I'll play, so count me in.

I know the lease terms so no worries there..Craigs only calling for me! And I was with scotty and you in the deer...Had to switch it up...You'll be fine! Ok i would be intrested in joining a team. But i think it is only fair i post my situation before a team is willing to take me on.
I am a first time turkey hunter. I Will be using my Parker Buck hunter XP bow. Pop up blind.

The really Important thing. I may not be able to get out to hunt. My wife is 37 weeks pregnant today. So if she has the baby before or during the season it may prevent me from going out. Since we also have a 19month old daughter already. If i could get my daugher to go out with me and not freak out when she sees a bird it wouldnt be a problem. When i brought out my hen decoy my daughter freaked out TURKEY,TURKEY ,TURKEY ,TURKEY and then she goes and finds the jake call i picked up for her and shakes it for a good 30 min or so. I could only imagin what she would do if i took her to the woods and seen a bird. I WOULDNT HAVE A CHANCE.

But i would be glad to join you all. Best of luck to everyone.
