I am new to the tournament scene and am looking to get into some local bass tournaments around the lansing/flint area. I have scene them going on at lobdell quite a few times and not really sure how to get started in them. I have done a few small tourneys in indiana, but not back here. I have a couple of people that would want to do them with me so i would be looking for 2 person tourneys, but singles are not out of the question. I am just looking at talking to someone who could help me to get started. Thanks guys for the info.

There are tournaments going on every wednesday's from bass opener to about OCtober on Lobdell lake. There is no membership fee just the regular tournament fee. This is team tournaments two per boat or you can fish by yourself if you would like. The entry fee is $40.00 per boat and that includes the big bass pot. It is a 5 fish limit. For the most part they draw a good amount of boats and there is some really good competition out there. That would be a good place to get you started and get your feet wet. If you want to fish other lakes try NBAABASS.com and sign up for a membership that will allow you to fish any of their tournaments. They have weekend 8 hour tournaments and weeknight 3 hour tournaments all over the place. There is a division that fishes all around fenton area weeknight division number is division 61 I believe. And there is some weekend divisions that fish alot of the lakes like Lobdell, ponemah, fenton and some others. Just log onto their website and look around. It is very easy to get involved with. Any other questions just ask.

I am not trying to persuade or turn you away from anything, but if you are just starting out tournament fishing, tournaments like the NBAA or ones when people say there is good competition out there are usually not good places to "learn." Chances are (unless you are a pretty good stick already) you will just be donating your money for the first year or so.

Again, I am not saying anything against any tournament trail. I am only stating the fact that anyone just starting out in tournament fishing, usually donate money for quite a while until they get the hang of things. A club atmosphere that focuses on developing anglers and uses team events where you get to fish with a lot of different people are things to look for.

If you already know what you are doing and just want to measure yourself, NBAA and weekday open tourneys are great places to do that.

Have fun and good luck!

There is really no one you contact. Not that I know of. They tournaments start the first wed. of bass season. They tournaments go from 6-9pm you just show up at Whites Landing which is in Whites Cove on Lobdell lake just south off of Silver Lake Rd. Behind the Restaurant on the corner of Silver lake Rd. YOu can see Whites Landing from silver lake rd. It is the big WHITE building there. You just pull in on wed. give the guy at the picnic table the 40$ your name and you are in. They will blast the boats off at 6 and they will begin weighing in at 9pm. I will tell you that there are some very good sticks fishing those tourneys so don't get discouraged about it. I look at it as a way to measure your skills and let you know how much more you need to work to compete consistantly. Very well ran tournaments have never had a problem all good guys. Show up and have some fun no matter what. If you are not having fun then you will not fish as well and enjoy yourself. Any other questions just ask.
