i am a wisconsin resident but i hunt in upper michian, i am under the age of 17 so i buy resident tags because im counted as a michigan resident. BUT wisconsin residents can not buy a fur harvester license because wiconsin do not let hunters from michigan buy a fur harvesters license. So would i be able to by a fur harvesters license?

Off the MI DNR web site,

Nonresident Fur Harvester License

Nonresidents may hunt and trap furbearing animals only from Nov. 15 through the regular season closing dates. A nonresident cannot purchase a license before Nov. 15. Residents of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the province of Ontario, Canada, cannot purchase a Michigan nonresident fur harvester license.

Your opening questions are somewhat contadictory,.. either your a Michigan resident or not  ,...you can't legally be both.

If your home of record ( The address on your drivers license, where you reside, etc.) is WISCONSIN,... than NO you can not purchase a MICHIGAN fur harvesters license. Your not a resident and non residents in the states that were listed (see below) can't purchase a non-resident license.

From the hunting guide:

"Nonresidents under the age of 17 may purchase resident and junior licenses..."

and

"Resident junior archery deer hunting, junior small game, and junior fur harvester licenses are available to resident and nonresident hunters, ages 10-16, and grant the same privileges as the adult licenses."

from: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10363_10913-32244--,00.html

Using those parameters, I would think that you should be able to get the fur harvester's license.

Good luck

He wouldn't be purchasing a nonresident fur harvester license, he would be buying a resident/junior fur harvester license.

At least that's how I read it.

I recently asked this question through the DNR website. Their reply was "Any youth that can legally hunt in Michigan can purchase a resident tag". If you have any questions, use the website, or call the Roscommon Field office, they have the answer. Just to be on the safe side, when you get your reply in writing, keep it with you, and happy trapping.

DMZ - did you even read the link I posted to the hunting guide:confused:

Pretty crappy to call a kid out for violating the law when it is you yourself who is the uninformed one:rant:

Birdhuntr,... Maybe it was just me reading his initial post wrong BUT,.. I could of swore he stated he WAS a resident of WISCONSIN.

Now if your NOT a resident of Michigan, the only consideration I would think the DNR would have for the young man would be a NON-resident. BUT if he was a resident,.. he would fall under the "Any youth that can legally hunt in Michigan can purchase a resident tag" clause.

Legally being the meaning he was a resident and met all the criteria within.

Just my personal take on the whole thing,....

7MM-Actually, I did read the original post correctly. Any youth, 16 and younger, who can legally hunt in Michigan(and he can, even being a resident of Wis.) can purchase a resident Michigan license. It is part of Michigan's plan to get more youngsters involved in the outdoors. When it comes to hunting and fishing licenses, the MDNR considers ALL minors as residents for licensing purposes. That is fact from the Law Enforcement Division of MDNR. Take a kid hunting.
The link to the DNR page that Radar posted spells it out perfectly.
Coyote Hunter-Email the Law Division of the DNR. They will send you a reply that you can purchase the resident license, and keep that email in print with you as I have ran across a couple of CO's who didn't realize they were wrong also. Good luck.

Birdhnter1,... Well I guess an ol' dog CAN learn something new!

I never realized that about minors in the field,... guess I kinda' skip over thoses sections seeing they don't pertain to me personally. ;)

Thanks for the update,.. and I guess I'd better read this years booklet cover to cover to make sure I don't miss something else. :D

Hey,.. when your wrong,... your wrong. ;)

But that poses one more question,... does he have to comply with the Michigan Hunters Safety Course as a minor like any actual Michigan resident youth would and present a card to purchase his license??

Michigan honors other states hunter safety certificates, as other states also honor ours, regardless of age. If a person didn't have a hunter safety cerificate, either Mi. or from another state, and wanted to hunt in Mi., they could purchase an apprentice license for two years in Mi., after which they would have to take and pass a hunter safey class in some state.
