what do i need for me and everybody else on my boat if we want to go into canadian waters??? first boat and am trying to find the laws on the computer but havent found them for if your not docking and going ashore...

You are better off posting this in the Ask the Coastgaurd forum above the general law.

Pretty sure same laws apply as in states, but remember no beer in the boat in Canada der aye.

The law as of right now is, any vessle that touches foreign soil( land, anchor, tie up to another vessel that is anchored, or receive merchandise from a vessel) must report their arrival back to the U.S. Also everyone on board must have an I-68 or NEXUS card. You can obtain an I-68 from the any Port of Entry (Ambassador Bridge, Tunnel, Blue Water Bridge), and Obtain a Nexus at the Ambassador Bridge(but this is a lengthy process). I-68 is easier to obtain.

If you are not docking, anchoring or touching land, all you need is 2 pieces of ID, such as DL and Birth Certificate.

An I68 or Passport is not needed in the situations described above.

The I68 form/program is voluntary and not a requirement for crossing from US/Canada or vice versa.

Should you obtain an I68 it exempts you from an in-person inspection by allowing you to report to CBP by telephone on your return to the US.
