I am making a log book to keep in the boat and try to keep better records. The little notebook I keep in my truck just isnt cutting it any more.
What headings do you all suggest I put in it. Here is what I was thinking so far:
Date:
Time:
Location:
Water temp./clarity:
Wind/waves:
Air Temp.:
Lure/Bait:
Trolling speed:
Depth/line out:
NOTES:
Thanks,
Captain Jay

As a much newer angler, I keep even incidental stuff like which pole, line (# test), hardware (swivel vs no swivel, leader vs no leader), reel (spinning/baitcast/retreive speed), sunny/overcast/windy/calm, etc. I also have reference spread sheets in my log that tells me by species what are the optimum lures/colors/line wt. for various conditions. This information was simply a compliation of many articles where at least 2-3 authors said the same thing.
Again, I'm just learning so this may be too basic for your needs.

Ya might add these:
Colors - (colors tried)
Effective Colors - (those that worked best)
Bottom Structure - (weeds, rock piles, flats, etc.)
Effective Depth - (18 - 20' in 23 fow)
Method -(trolling, drifting, casting, jigging, etc.)

A place for people to sign, like a guest book. Their comments are great, especially the ones from children. My couple of friends have them in their cabins, and some of the memories shared are absolutely priceless.

here are some stuff you can add and ask yourself. maybe what kind of structure your fishing, did the fish strike on the fall, did the fish on the windward side of the cover or not, what size of lure, sky conditions, baitfish,

with all these ideas. His spread sheet will be so big, he will catch a fish and by the time hes done entering the information. His trip will be over.
