I bought an older Golden Eagle bow which I took to a shop to get set up. It has a narrow rest area and was told my choice in rest were limited (probbly a wisker bisquit) and I should shoot feather arrows because they would brush the bow. Can I get an education on feather arrows and this situation. Thanks

Feathers lose! I know your situation all too well. The WB is very hard on fletching whether it is a vane or feather, but it will tear the feathers up. There are many other workable choices out there. Personally I installed dropaways on both of my 1993 vintage Hoyt SuperSlams (narrow shelf) and could not be happier. The new technology will work on the old stuff but I paid as much for the rest as I did the bow! The older TM hunter style rests should work well with your bow. Like the previous post, you should use feathers and 4" is the shortest I'd go with for hunting. Unless you hunt in driving rain the feathers will be totally serviceable in the field. . .

I grew up shooting older bows and have never had a problem getting rest clearance. You might want to look at an older style rest like a NAP Quick-tune, or the Silent Solution that I still shoot. I personally would never use a WB. Also, straight fletching (or at most just a slight offset) will give you maximum clearance. In the very unlikely event that you can not achieve complete clearance with your rest, feathers are more forgiving if they make contact anywhere in the system.

Thanks guys for the info. You made me feel alittle better than the pro at BPS. I don't want to beat him up too bad, but after he told me the Golden Eagle was going to be hard to set up, I asked him to show me a entry level package, and he showed me the Martin Leopard. I went home and looked up the bow only to find out it is designed for a smaller person with a max draw of 27". I am 6'-0" and the pro had just measured me at a 28" draw. Enough about that though. :dizzy:
To anwser your question, MI Head Hunter, I think I am going to start out with Carbon fury supreme Lt arrows with Thunderhead 125gr.
This will be my first year hunting so I really don't want to spend the money for a new bow. I still have to buy stands, clothing, targets, ect...and all on an out of work carpenters salary. :yikes:Maybe setting up the GE is the way to go for this year.
BTW Joe Archer.......have you tried the ambush saddle?
Thanks again for your opions guys....good luck this year!!

Do you know which model it is? I have owned a number of Golden Eagles including the Vision, Formula 3-D, Evolution, Revolution and one other that I cannot remember the name of and never encountered that problem. I used to always shoot a TM Hunter prong style rest and with a little tweaking there was no issue with fletch contact either on the rest or the riser. I build my own arrows and have shot 4" feathers, 5" feathers, 4" vanes, 2" vanes and the real small ones when I used to shoot in a taget league out of the above bows.
I now shoot a Mathews Switchback XT with a WB using 2" Blazers with no problems. I would take your bow to a reputable bow shop and have them help you make the right decision. You're fortunate that you live close to MJC and KD Outdoors, they are both excellent shops with very talented techs.

Nailer,
The bow is a predator. I am not sure when it was manufactured, but It is an older bow. Thanks for your imput. I am waiting for MJC to open up and I am out the door. I would go see Ken but MJC is just around the corner and I think I might do a little shooting there anyway.
Thanks again!!
