Howdy All,
Be careful out there. I took a little dip last Sunday (completely over my head) and then again my right thigh on Thursday. Thank God I had the orange spikes (in the handles that fit together with the accordion cord) around my neck. I kicked like a fiend as soon as I went down and bobbed right back up... in my adrenalized state I spiked my way out of there in no time. Thanks to Tin Cup (my dad) for the spikes!
Thursday I managed some kind of contortion that left me a bit sore in the thigh muscles and got back on good ice while saying "Not Again! Not Again!"
I guess it's about time to hang it up...
Like old Tin Cup (a grizzled river rat) says. "You fish the ice... You pay the price."

the ice is to shaky for me to go out, not worth the scare, or worse yet, not worth drowning for some perch:dizzy:

I'll give you credit or you need some .....:help:!
If I broke through, went over my head, it would have taken more than a couple of days before I went back out.
And then you end with, "I guess it's about time to hang it up...":lol::lol: No offense, but if you see me out there, please stay away, it sounds like your in a bad luck spurt right now.:lol::lol:

The ice is shot all over the lake now with the exception of some close to shore in Fair Haven It is not worth making headlines for a few fish!

What part of my statement did I say I do not like my job? And I am not quite sure which rock you just crawled out from under, but what do you consider a "real" job? I have one of the most prestigious jobs in the world, and I am proud to have it, and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
I apologize for taking this thread off course, and to all that are still fishing the hard water, you owe it to yourself and your family to be safe. Hopefully you never have a first hand experience with a Mustang Rescue suit.
Good luck to all.

Was fishin the straits chain last night(West Bloomfield Township)(you guys that were on the sleds sure looked like you were havin a great time!!!!) and thank god we had a power auger with us!!!!!!!!! The shore ice was solid and we found some insane amounts fish that wouldn't bite! As far as what damage the rain did today, will have to be seen within the next few days. Always safe on the hard or soft water! And as far as not likein the job, sure wish I could go back to 85' was way to young and dumb, could have had a fire cadet positon, but just couldn't bring myself to sittin and answering the phone for 24hrs. at $7.00 bucks a hour!!!!!! PD and Fire went to civil dispatch a few short moons later and I ended up at the DPW. With my senority I would be a Lt. today, makin a lot of money(can't even bring myself to type in the amount) and get hammered by softball team mates every year about it!!! (the ones workin at the fire station) So sorry about gettin way to far off the thread subject, but should anyone head out in SE Mi. I'd advise to use much caution or just sit it out and wait for the big thaw to start next week! Currently 28 degrees and heavy snow !!!!!!!

Firemedic,
Don't worry...99.99% of us understand why you do what you do, and appreciate the fact that you're willing to do it to protect us all. Boneheads like that poster (spice64) (who by the way don't have the stones to fill out their profile so we can actually get to know who's speaking) don't deserve a response and should be yanked by the mod's. Okay, now back to topic ;)

Sorry for the delay but when I last checked there were only 3 comments. I was on a canal when I went in the first time and the second was while putting my buckets up on the shore at the SCS Library canal.

I took a dip in 02 and it took a few years to get back out on the ice. I sold all of my equipment and now I have some new stuff!

Going into burning buildings or freezing water to save someones life apparently
isn't real enough for you? Maybe you could enlighten those of us dummies
who admire and appreciate what people like Firemedic does and tell us just what a "real" job is.
