I killed a coon tonight that was up in a tree in the yard
after it was dead, I turned it over and there was a big scab/scar on its back.
Any idea of what it could be? My wife has a service dog and I'd hate for it to get something from having coons with ilnesses's hanging out around here.
I'll try to get a pic or two in the morning.

When I used to hunt them I would get some with short ear's and tails I was told it was frost bite. If it was a male, it could have been fighting with other male's. But then again maybe it did'nt duck down far enough when the car drove over it either. Hard to say

I wouldn't worry about it, the breeding season is ending now, could of been injured then, If it wasn't acting funny don't worry about it, They do carry lots of worms though and other parasites.

I've seen lots of them with that mark on their back, mostly in the spring. Don't know what it is but doubt it'll affect the dog. Coons get distemper and rabies prinmarily and your dog should be vacinated for those.
